He's not wrong and Smoothie King is not getting any less old, a rare case where Enterprise would actually be an upgrade. The Pelicans are gonna be STL's single best chance to add another big 4 sports team in the foreseeable future.

Do you think the NBA would block a relocation to St.Louis if St.Louis became a front runner for a relocating team?

Maybe they wouldn’t see St.Louis as desirable or plausible even if we checked every box…. Just think they would prefer Kansas City over St.Louis also I’m just curious is all….

I also believe they would prefer cities like KC or Louisville. Even though St. Louis is a larger market, the NBA doesn’t like to compete with NHL teams in mid-size markets.PlatinumBlues wrote:Maybe they wouldn’t see St.Louis as desirable or plausible even if we checked every box…. If St. Louis could start to show some better economic and population growth trends however, I think we become a much stronger contender for a team.

I was going to mention St.Louis’s lack of population growth to declining population could be a strong deterrent even though we have a decent corporate presence..STLcommenter wrote:I also believe they would prefer cities like KC or Louisville. St. Louis isn't the front runner. The front runners are Seattle and Las Vegas with St. Louis a way distant 3rd to 5th.

This is why said if St.Louis became a front runner however I know we’re more likely an afterthought… I have no doubt St.Louis can support a NBA… We’re fortunate to have the Cardinals Blues & City SC even the Battlehawksdweebe wrote:St. Louis isn't the front runner. St. Louis's best chance is for David Steward to buy the Pelicans and relocate them to STL.
This is true. But I also bet the NBA is looking to expand too. Could easily have Seattle and Vegas be expansion teams with the Pelicans moving to a Midwestern city and Grizzlies moving to Nashville.
Louisville is too close to Indianapolis, St. Louis may also be though. I could easily see KC getting a Pelicans relocation over STL. But I believe that if STL had a well organized plan with city and corporate support, we would beat out KC.
I also can't really see Cincinnati due to lack of arena and proximity to Indy, and Columbus feels like Cavs territory, but they could also be a dark horse.
The strength of the University of Louisville Cardinal program doesn't help either with that city's chances.Auggie wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025This is true. But I also bet the NBA is looking to expand too. Same with Columbus. Not sure how an NBA team would draw at their downtown arena when the on campus arena is always full for college games.
There's no way the NBA even thinks of St. Louis as an option without a new arena. Either a shared new home with the Blues or their own place. If one of the main reasons (if not THE reason) they stopped the Grizzlies move here 25 years ago was the building, what makes anyone think they'd accept Enterprise Center now?STLAPTS wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025St. Louis's best chance is for David Steward to buy the Pelicans and relocate them to STL.
That still doesn’t answer why you think the NBA might block STL if it was the front runner…PlatinumBlues wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025This is why said if St.Louis became a front runner however I know we’re more likely an afterthought… I have no doubt St.Louis can support a NBA… We’re fortunate to have the Cardinals Blues & City SC even the Battlehawksdweebe wrote:St. Louis isn't the front runner. There’s many possible reasons they could block by using the blues as road block enterprise center not being new but I personally think they simply don’t see St.Louis as a thriving area that doesn’t fit into their narrative & future I mean didn’t they block the grizzlies from moving here? If so thats’s history that doesn’t favor St.Louisjshank83 wrote:That still doesn’t answer why you think the NBA might block STL if it was the front runner…PlatinumBlues wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025This is why said if St.Louis became a front runner however I know we’re more likely an afterthought… I have no doubt St.Louis can support a NBA… We’re fortunate to have the Cardinals Blues & City SC even the Battlehawksdweebe wrote: St. Louis isn't the front runner. They'd accept Enterprise for a temporary home while a new arena gets built, that's about it though. But I also imagine if a new arena were built for an NBA team, it would probably also have the Blues in mind. I at least would not want 2 18k seat indoor arenas downtown.dweebe wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025There's no way the NBA even thinks of St. Louis as an option without a new arena. I don't think the Blues should get a new arena anytime soon unless it comes with an NBA team.Auggie wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025They'd accept Enterprise for a temporary home while a new arena gets built, that's about it though. Still 20 or so years until the Blues begin talking about a new arena….

Because there's no space in the arena for NBA standard locker rooms, coaches offices, trainers/medical area. The Enterprise Center was built too small and not for two teams. It wasn't passable in 1999/2000 and sure as hell wouldn't fly today.jshank83 wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025That still doesn’t answer why you think the NBA might block STL if it was the front runner…PlatinumBlues wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025This is why said if St.Louis became a front runner however I know we’re more likely an afterthought… I have no doubt St.Louis can support a NBA… We’re fortunate to have the Cardinals Blues & City SC even the Battlehawksdweebe wrote: St. Louis isn't the front runner. The only way the current arena could host two teams would be to tear down the Kiel Garage and put all the basketball operations in a new building there. (Like the Bulls and Pacers did to their places.) And I can guarantee the City will NEVER give up that cash cow.
Or we end up like the Twin Cities where their NBA and NHL teams play in two separate venues.Auggie wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025They'd accept Enterprise for a temporary home while a new arena gets built, that's about it though. Play in Enterprise Center for 3 years and then build a basketball stadium at Grand and Manchester...dweebe wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025Or we end up like the Twin Cities where their NBA and NHL teams play in two separate venues.Auggie wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2025They'd accept Enterprise for a temporary home while a new arena gets built, that's about it though. Then see if cash strapped Wash U will part with their land at Rosedale and Skinker just behind Moonrise and The Pageant.
Owner : Dave Steward
Team : Spirits of St. Louis
G-League affiliate - I'd actually keep the Pelicans brand in New Orleans.
Then I rename my account PlatinumSpirits.

And of course there's the WNBA group that was put together by Jayson Tatum Richard Chaifetz and David Hoffman. I'm pretty sure a group can be put together to buy the Pelicans.

I vote for putting it on the riverfront where the Rams new stadium was going to be
