Public parking for the Commons (and Timmy Ho's) is in the parking lot that was re-designed on the SW corner of Boyle and Clayton.
Cortex is the only part of this city where things actually happen at a pace comparable to other thriving/revitalizing US cities. People release plans, and within a matter of weeks, you see stuff happening on the ground and things getting done.
Chicago has about a dozen Cortex-like areas where development seems to be chugging along non-stop.
I wish there were some way to export the energy of this district to other areas of the city, such as downtown, the north side, etc. I'm sure one of the major reasons CORTEX is so successful is that it has a major player (BJC/WashU Medicine) bankrolling, organizing, or otherwise supporting some of this development. Instead of having bad actors like the Cardinals/Cordish tossing a wrench in the gears of progress in the name of extracting a little more short-term rent.

There's some interesting tidbits about CORTEX plans located in this article on the innovation districts there and downtown. Anyone know anything about this hotel?

Another highly anticipated project at Cortex is a Metrolink stop, slated for completion in 2017. The stop will connect Cortex with the rest of the area and allow visitors and clients easier access to the campus. This amenity, combined with a nearby boutique hotel scheduled to open its doors in 2018, will also make it easier for visitors to come to Cortex directly from the airport and stay on-site, says Travis Sheridan, executive director of Venture Cafe, Cortex’s ongoing networking initiative.

I don't know any details, but hotel space was part of the mixed-use site planning for the US Metals property.

Easy. Call it GEN(h)OME and use a double helix as the logo. Boom. Done.

Cortex picked up a couple parcels next to Tech Shop fronting FPA.... the Sommers Printing Building and surface lot. I suspect when the decide to redevelop, they'll demo the building for a structure similar to Tech Shop and Cortex One.
Long term, I wonder if they'll be able to push even further east on Forest Park Avenue... Not sure if the adjacent Legal Services of EMO would sell their building, but I suppose if the price is right they'd be open. I'd also like to see the Self-storage place be redone as cool office or residential mixed-use. Moving Goodwill would take a major deal.

Curious if anyone heard anything on the Crescent Building? Talk about a west coast based company setting up shop.
Plus who then tenant is for the 40,000 square feet above tech shop?

Park Avenue Coffee in @4240 is now open. They have the usual pastries and some additional lunch and breakfast options in addition to their drinks menu. There have been 15 minute parking spots added along Duncan in front of the building. Park Avenue can be accessed from inside @4240 or via a separate entrance off Duncan.

Cortex has purchased the Midtown Station parcel according to the biz journal.
I think this is great news and I really appreciate Pace selling that key property... if they couldn't make for at least something resembling the Boulevard it was indeed best for them to move on and allow Cortex to bank it for a master plan. Hopefully Pace will find another property in the area to develop successfully like they indicated they hope to do.
Brief blurb from BizJournal:
Park Avenue Coffee in the @4240 building at Cortex is now open. Cortex President and CEO Dennis Lower, speaking at a MVF networking event, said the district is also negotiating with several hotel operators about opening a hotel in the district.

Not much new news, but it looks like they still expect to have the top two floors of the TechShop building fully leased by the end of the first quarter... so hopefully we'll hear a tenant announcement soon.

^ Too bad their wasn't a tidbit thrown in about the Crescent Building future or an update on US Metals site prospects. It would be nice to have a year end surprise for CORTEX.
Still think they short changed themselves by not going a few stories higher on the Tech Shop building. Understand the financing, securing tenant and all that but the more Class A they can add the sooner the better if they want to keep momentum going IMO.

Wasn't paying attn. but my ears perked up when I think Fox2 just mentioned cutbacks at Dupont and then showed the cortex office.... has anyone heard anything impacting there?

They're in the midst of trying to merge with Dow, but I haven't seen anything STL specific.roger wyoming II wrote:Wasn't paying attn. but my ears perked up when I think Fox2 just mentioned cutbacks at Dupont and then showed the cortex office.... has anyone heard anything impacting there?

My wife interviewed there 3 or 4 years ago and then again 6 months later. By then all 6 people she had interviewed with had left the company. She also said the building didn't appear to have too many people working there.roger wyoming II wrote:Wasn't paying attn. but my ears perked up when I think Fox2 just mentioned cutbacks at Dupont and then showed the cortex office.... has anyone heard anything impacting there?
The financial future of Boeing’s Hazelwood-based Defense, Space & Security (BDS) unit could rest on ideas being tossed around in a 7,500-square-foot office space in the Cortex innovation district.
There, Boeing has about a dozen employees working in its Phantom Works Ventures division, which is charged with finding new growth opportunities for one of the world’s leading defense contractors.

First real estate news in a while; per our resident Presbyterian, these dudes on Duncan next to @4260/TechShop are likely goners
as demolition permits have been sought.

I can't recall off the top of my head, but I believe this may have been slotted as hotel in some of the site plans.

If there was a way to count parking garage spaces within a quarter mile of transit stations, I think St. Louis might have an unusually high number of parking spots per station.
