^I thought that location had been closed for a while.
Impromptu poll: It sounds like their move across Hanley is a done deal, but would people here rather Centene A.) Expand its footprint eastward across Hanley (and tear down the Wine Merchant, License Bureau Building, and any other required demos; or B.) Build something on the green lot where Centene II was initially proposed (and probably tear down 7711 Carondelet)?
I'm a bit agnostic, although lean toward preferring developers stick with and follow through on their initially proposed plans. In other words, I like the rare instances where Phase 2s actually happen, as opposed to clearly ending up being bait and switches or at best puffery as part of a sales pitch.

I vote for the Eastward expansion. I always thought the grassy-knoll would be too close to the existing tower; and I would hate to see 7711 torn down.

They have a couple people renting space in CIC@4240. They look more like programmers over another business department but it means they may still be looking at the city for space.
I suspect that both parcels will be used -- for buildings and/or parking. While Centene leases out the top 5 levels of the parking garage along Forsyth, virtually all of it is being used. When an additional building is built, more parking will be needed as well.wabash wrote:Impromptu poll: It sounds like their move across Hanley is a done deal, but would people here rather Centene A.) Incredible considering the scale of that garage. They did a decent job with it, but IMO allowing that garage to front Forsyth was a major misstep for Clayton.gregl wrote:virtually all of it is being used. When an additional building is built, more parking will be needed as well.

Noticed that Centene has taken over the old RGA building at 64/Timberlake. Centene is in the middle one, Edgewell in the east one and amdocs is on the west building

They appear to be doing some engineering work, locating utilities, and such between the old Wine Merchant and MetaPhase buildings. I'd will go ahead and assume this is a good sign that development imminent.

Centene appears to be moving towards the construction of a full on campus. That's a good thing. Wish it was downtown or in the CWE but Clayton is good as well. Hopefully this is a chance at a new tallest for Clayton.
Completely off topic, but man would the old Trianon site be a cool spot for an MLS stadium...

^ occasionally. I think the one that got the hardest push back was CortexSTL denying Target was going into the vacant lot on FPP across from IKEA.
Perhaps a few details were inaccurate or not completely etched in stone.
For someone to write the article, draw up faux renderings etc., there has to be at least some validity to the article.
I just don't think NextSTL.com is that negligent.
Opinionated, yes. But most of the time they get it right - even if the project is announced years later.

^It wouldn't be the first time they've gotten a little too far out in front of a story.
Basically the announcement was that it'll be 28 stories with a hotel. It's quite possible someone more in the know than their source told them they were wrong on both accounts.

Clayco mailed notices to all the residents at The Crescent notifying them Clayco will begin demolishing the three buildings on this site (7636 Forsyth, 12 S Hanley, & 20 S Hanley) beginning February 1st. All demolition and grading work is scheduled to be finished by April 15th.
It looks like this project will get going rather quickly.

I would say the nextstl article doesn't have much to do with the workings of this project. Cenetene has already outgrown their existing digs and is only getting larger. Not a whole lot of reason to think this isn't proceeding as reported. If anything, as stated prior, the hotel portion may be inaccurate. At their current growth rate, they may need the entire building for office.

^ What worries me the most is the report that part of the non-Centene offices would be leased to other companies in addition to the hotel portion.... downtown can't afford to lose another key company that could be enticed by Class A+ new construction.

I found this ironic since they'll likely soon lose some of their view to the east

I had previously heard a concern about the impact to the owners of condos at the Crescent, as a new building would significantly affect their views.

^ A good problem to have! Reminds me of this story from Milwaukee where the builder of a downtown office building is suing to block (or make changes to) a planned Westin Hotel next door

$42Billion!
http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/morn ... 1453906709Centene, led by CEO Michael Neidorff, announced preliminary 2015 financial results Tuesday, reporting $22.8 billion in revenue. The company is projecting revenue of between $41.2 billion and $42 billion for 2016

When people block to sue new construction because it may block their view, it makes me angry. Who thinks that they have a 'right' to a view? Especially if you don't own the land next to you? Sounds like people just don't like change and don't understand that air rights don't extend from their apartments.
