Great news! Hopefully between Centene's growth, the success of Centene Plaza, the growing enrollment in ObamaCare, and the improving economy a second tower actually has a chance of becoming a reality. It would be nice to see a Phase II proposal actually built for once.

It would be nice to see them abandon phase 2 and relocate to AT&T tower downtown.

Or move that Chesterfield operation downtown.downtown2007 wrote:It would be nice to see them abandon phase 2 and relocate to AT&T tower downtown.
^ I was under the impression that the second tower/phase II was part of the original development agreement. In other words, Centene is fully committed to CBD. I think it would be good either way, continue to expand & consolidate in Clayton business district with another tower or move to a larger facility downtown (ATT One Center) or relocate Chesterfield ops into the city. Question, what office does Centene have in Chesterfield? Is it IT related? CORTEX might a good choice also and would be nice to see two large St. Louis Health care related companies, Centene & Express Scripts, have a presence in CORTEX
I also wonder how much Centene is letting the developers of "The Crossing" know of their intended plans in the next year or two. It takes some confidence for residential developers and banks to move forward on projects. Centene might be letting the right people know that they intend to build out more space in the near future.

Plus APEX Oil and Brown Shoe's proposed expansions. Hopefully those are coming soon and adding hundreds, if not thousands more jobs to the 'hood.

While it would be nice for a Clayton company to make the move to downtown, I'm fine with the firms there growing employees and square footage.... job growth is good for the region and still proximate for Saint Louis City living. Its the firms that locate off of Metrolink and past 170 along the 40/64/270 corridor that are the frustrating ones.

Looks like Centene doesn't anticipate completion of building TWO in the next 5 years.

From new Ballpark Village Tower, to Centene Plaza in Clayton., to Chesterfield office space. They seem to be moving in the wrong direction. Too bad.

I think Centene only used the city to handcuff Clayton! How seriously was Centene going to move its HQ downtown They don't even have a single office/employee in the city. They seem to be more anti urban than anything else. It's good that they are growing and down the road expanding but really.. These companies really need to start investing in the heart of St.Louis it won't hurt them to put employees downtown ins't that how most of them got their start anyways? Most still don't seem to acknowledge the needs of a strong downtown core..

I think Centene needed space faster than BPV could provide.
Centene was totally serious about Downtown. It was a huge embarrassment to all involved when the deal fell through. As I recall, Centene wanted to build and own their own building, while Cordish insisted that they lease.

The garage retail space is finally filling up. Niche and Pastaria have been there a while on the west side. Tani Sushi and kakaoa Chocolates are filling up the middle bays and Cantina Laredo was announced to filling up the premier restaurant space on the east end.

Well I guess we'll still have places to eat in Clayton, huh? Even more of them.

Geoff Whittington has dropped the teaser for Centene Tower 2 in the Montgomery Tower article over at NextSTL.
Centene Tower 2 will also soon be announced...More on that later....

According to the NextStL Article they're looking across Hanley instead of on the grassy knoll to the south.

Ok. I'm jealous of Clayton now. IF the two residential towers get built and Centene builds Tower 2... that's some awesome investment all at once.

Good for them. They need it. Place is still dead at day and night.
You could run naked from one side of downtown Clayton to the other around 8pm on a weeknight and the only people that might see you are the Imo's Pizza delivery driver and someone taking the trash out at Chipotle.downtown2007 wrote:Good for them. They need it. Place is still dead at day and night.

Decided to read through the entire thread and saw that quote on the first page.arch city wrote:^Centene Corporation is a fairly fast growing company. It hit the $1-billion last year by growing 30%. I anticipate it cracking the F1000 in a few years if not sooner.
Just to put it in perspective, Centene was #253 in the 2013 Fortune 500 with revenues of $10.86 Billion.
For the first six months of 2014, revenues are almost $2.1 Billion higher than the first six months of 2013.
