Another life destroyed

The first story described a 3 year old victim, the second a 2 year old victim. I assume both stories are about the same child, they just didn't have the correct age when they first reported the story, right?

^ if only the little girl and the puppy had each been driving a bigger pickup truck than the murderer, everyone would be alright.

^^ Yes

^Or wearing hi-viz. Why isn't he charged with manslaughter?
Oh
Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless Homicide.
(a) A person who unintentionally kills an individual without lawful justification commits involuntary manslaughter if his acts whether lawful or unlawful which cause the death are such as are likely to cause death or great bodily harm to some individual, and he performs them recklessly, except in cases in which the cause of the death consists of the driving of a motor vehicle or operating a snowmobile,

Is here any indication that he was speeding, distracted, under the influence, etc.? The article says nothing, just that he fled. I'm sure they would have charged him with something else besides "not reporting an accident".

Curiosity : The specific mention of snowmobiles seems random, as they are motor vehicles. Are they not required to be licensed in Illinois? And every other potential motorized vehicle is?

In the video in the KSDk story they said that police were waiting on a toxicology report, though they didn't expect it to show anything.

^^ i don't see how one mows down a 2-year-old child unless one is speeding and/or not paying attention and/or under the influence. 2-year-olds aren't that fast. and presumably the puppy ran out first, so one would think he would have seen the puppy before the child. in any case, why did he flee if he wasn't doing anything wrong?

Here's the location of the killing. The speed limit is 45. This is IL-3, so IDOT bears some culpability for this.

So basically what we have here is the first half of Pet Cemetery? :( It was a lousy movie. It's a worse reality.

^ Yes, and thanks for asking.  It was pretty serious though, though not enough to make the news lol.  Happened in Illinois, some inattentive driver made a left across the center turn lane and my lane, I swerved to avoid and she t-boned me on my side, air bag deployment and all.  My car is probably toast.

Is it exceptionally difficult to change stoplight timing here or what?

It's baffling that Tucker still has separate rush hour timing (never brought out a stopwatch, but it seems there are longer greens during rush hour) under current conditions.

I'm no traffic engineer, but when lights are minutes long (both rush hour and off-peak), it's incentivizing speeding. Green lights on Tucker need to be a fraction as long as usual. You can't get up to 50mph when you can't make it through 8 consecutive green lights. And pedestrians barely get enough time to walk across Tucker. Like, that timing is literally not enough for older, mobility-challenged folks.

Seems like something they should've done when putting up barriers.

Also don't understand why there are barriers up north by McDonald's on the 2-lane portion of Tucker but none on the really wide part in the heart of downtown.

My company’s main focus is dept of defense, cyber security with NGA, running nuclear sites for the dept of energy but we have a huge legacy component with transportation engineering and design and have now been incorporating some of the new tech into that.  I work on the dept of defense side but when I heard that our transportation side was rolling out this new smart intersection/signal tech and was looking for cities to do free testing I asked if I can reach out to STL city and see if they want the tech- got a yes, so I emailed the streets director to see if they’re interested,  that was January and I’ve yet to hear back and I even know the guy. I worked for him.

This is very high tech stuff where the system learns patterns and self adjusts
