^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?
Yeah, all over. This is America. When I lived in KC someone took an AR and turned a car into Swiss cheese...on 47th Street...in the Plaza, in broad daylight.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Sep 14, 2020^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?
Ever been to Florida?

I live in Soulard. Not that long ago, within a couple weeks of each other, I had some gun action near me. The first time was my friend and I standing on the corner of 12th & Russell waiting for the light to change. This dude goes threw the light, gets through the intersection, yells something indistinguishable, then pulls out a gun and fires three shots in the air and peels off. The second time I was in my apartment, and the sound was so loud I thought it was at my back door. Turns out it was this dude in my alley, and he was talking s*** to these guys staying in the Airbnb in my building, and fired 10-12 AR shots in the air, and again drove off. My dog found all the shells when I took her out the next day (by accident...she was just sniffing around).urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Sep 14, 2020^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?

It's a strong and distinctive odor and dogs do like stinky things. I had a neighbor shoot off his pistol at some guy who was walking down the street popping car doors in the middle of the night. At one in the morning a couple of hundred feet away that crap sounds like a howitzer. I'm still pleasantly surprised the burglar didn't decide to start strafing back. Not absolutely certain which neighbor this was, but I do have my suspicions.EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Sep 15, 2020I live in Soulard. ^ Yeesh. It's hard out here in these streets.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I thought I heard some shots over the weekend really close (again), and sure enough I'm taking my dog out to pee around 10pm and there are cops slowly circling the block one street over, and going down alleys with their spotlights on. The bullets are raining down.
Eastbound Washington at Tucker is back open to vehicle traffic. Some concrete barriers are still there, so I imagine the streets will be temporarily closed off again starting Friday and going to Sunday evening (or Monday morning) like how they are on the West side of Tucker..

I don't know if it got posted on here but last week there was a hit and run in Centerville that resulted in the person being decapitated possibly by the cable that runs along the road. The head was about ten feet from the headless body. Apparently this caused great trauma for many people who were driving by on the slowdown after the accident. It was a 31 year old from South St. Louis.
There was also another fatal accident in North City last night. And the 195th homicide in South City. Another female victim.

Not much of a crash (thankfully), but it's always fun to see an idiot lose control while showing-off in his 'Vette. Great River Road, Grafton.

can't see the article. how in the hell did that happen? it's in a strip mall set way the hell back from olive...quincunx wrote: ↑Oct 05, 2020Stltoday - Woman killed at Starbucks was former teacher-of-year in University City

^ Well he didn't drive into it from Olive. These things happen fairly regularly. An old person pulls up in front of a store, goes to hit the brake and hits the gas instead. Drives right through the front window. That's exactly what happened here. My great grandma did it years ago at her beauty salon. Thankfully she didn't kill anyone like this old man did.
After checking on his wife, Joseph Simmons talked with the male driver (in his 70s) of the SUV who said his “foot slipped off the brake onto the accelerator,” Zalasky said.

^ all the more reason to ban SUVs and require people to retest for their drivers license every 5 or 10 years. we have people driving around in deadly weapons who aren't competent. and let's be real: one's foot doesn't "slip" off the brake and subsequently hold down the accelerator long enough to jump a curb and plow through a storefront. jesus... cars are a f*cking plague.
^ I dislike SUVs as much as you do...but banning them isn't going to stop this. I've got a 4-cylinder Honda Accord and it'd plow right though a storefront too if I gave it the chance.
If someone is 60+ I could see needing to pass regular driving tests every few years...but I personally am not doing that. I'm not gonna go stand around the DMV for a couple of hours waiting to ride around with a trooper because other people can't figure sh*t out. I'm not the one out there racing in the streets, driving through storefronts and clogging up the left lane while texting and driving under the speed limit on the interstate.
