Didn't she tell the police that she was nowhere near the accident? I feel like that's the biggest no-no she committed.
They said she was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident involving death, a Class D felony.

Without the lying, I would say 6-12 months probation, with the lying I say 24 months probation. She should not be going to prison over this imo.

She also admitted she'd been drinking and smoked Marijuana that day.

She shouldn't be behind the wheel again IMO

She shouldn't, but, it's too easy to turn the key and push on the peddle.

Yea didn't catch that part in the article. I only read it while walking, must have not gotten through it all.

I would say 24 months probation, revoke her driver's license for a year.

Last night the dirt bike riding d-bags were at it again in Soulard and Kosciusko. But unlike in the past the cops broke them up and arrested 2 for reckless driving at Broadway and Chouteau.

We need to make the stretch between downtown anc Soulard more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly.

Glad we're finally doing something to let these a-holez know they aren't wanted here.

They were in the Grove, too.  I had a green light headed north at Taylor and had to stop as they were running their red light headed east.  I was inching out trying to get them to stop but they would not.  I am GLAD they got two of them, at least.

I hope they are successful. They should include the car manufacturer for building a heavy dangerous car and the Feds for allowing it.

Terrible but very common these days. Nothing will change until there is a political will to enforce traffic rules. I've seen pillars set up in front of buildings on main roads all over north city cause of this.

In this instance it’s very clearly road safety design improvements and not police enforcement that is the answer.

Clearly? This isn't some funky intersection that is hard to navigate. Manchester in the grove is one of the best pedestrian roads in STL and Boyle is smaller. If anything the person was clearly driving too fast. Nobody is enforcing speeding or anything else really.

The only thing they seem to be able to come up with is speed bumps every 200 ft.

Yes. Clearly. Like obviously clearly.

The Grove is one of the best pedestrian areas in the city, yet it doesn't feel like that when you're walking. The asphalt is terrible, there's no daylighting at intersections, none of the crosswalks are raised, the traffic lights are all on wires, there's no use of bollards, there's no speed humps to force cars to slow down, the lanes on Manchester are needlessly wide, the curbs are too short....etc etc etc.

All of these factors result in people driving too fast. And what do you think a cop would do? Try to pull them over? What happens when they flee? Now everyone is at even greater risk.

The clear and obvious solution to car violence is to build our infrastructure in a way that lowers the incentive to speed and recklessly drive. The cities in this country that have very low traffic accidents and deaths didn't get their numbers through police enforcement.

Lack of enforcement is incentive to speed.

Let these a holes know they can be caught and have the book thrown at them.

Enforcement is a limited resource. We didn’t slash our violent crime rates substantially over the last couple years by having the police focus on writing speeding tickets. There’s only so much we can reasonably do with that.

Totally agree. Making some of these fairly basic changes to the road would be such a more effective and efficient way to improve safety and reduce speeding.
