^Base of the assumed hotel building on Maryland and into the plaza looks like there's some activation. Generally looks like these are just concepts and subject to change as time goes on.

Damn, glad they were able to keep Caleres in Clayton - that looks amazing so far.
If it’s just going end another block later anyway, I’m not sure it matters much.quincunx wrote: ↑May 05, 2022It'd be great to build the street grid and develop on that.Caleres Redevel Street Plan.png

And Clayton High School probably wouldn't be too thrilled to give up that parking lot.
It's odd that they decided to throw in a grassy median on Maryland Ave in one of their renderings. Particularly since it appears to block access to Lancaster Drive to the north.

Right - it's not part of the plan, just pointing out quincunx's idea faces a lot more barriers to ever being realistic.chriss752 wrote: ↑May 05, 2022Clayton High School's parking lot stays where it is.
Post article says construction could start this summer. So maybe they do plan to move this along soon.
Underground parking garage (potentially) could make the costs go way up.framer wrote: ↑May 06, 2022Doesn't look like $500 million to me.
I really wish they would develop the surface lot on Maryland between Brighton and Topton ways.
The renderings seem to indicate a building being built there that matches the general aesthetic of the rest of the development. Of course, that could just be rendering filler though.

"The project will include other office tenants as well as a Life Time luxury fitness facility, said Jeff Tegethoff, operating partner at CRG, the local development arm of design-build company Clayco."
Consequence of Wellbridge closing in the new Centene building. I don't know how Lifetime memberships work, but if one membership works across locations, I would think this makes sense for people who live near other locations (West County and Frontenac) and work in Clayton. The other locations both have large pools with water slides and separate swimming lanes. From these preliminary drawings, this would be a different kind of facility with fewer amenities.
Also, those other Lifetime locations are enormous and have huge parking lots, often quite full on the weekends.

This part is what I was talking about.sc4mayor wrote: ↑May 06, 2022The renderings seem to indicate a building being built there that matches the general aesthetic of the rest of the development. Of course, that could just be rendering filler though.
I would love a Lifetime right there. Would be pretty devastating to the Center of Clayton membership though I imagine.NHampton wrote: ↑May 06, 2022"The project will include other office tenants as well as a Life Time luxury fitness facility, said Jeff Tegethoff, operating partner at CRG, the local development arm of design-build company Clayco."

^^ There are two parking lots on that block. One is Brown Shoe's visitor parking and is likely included in the redevelopment. The other belongs to Straub's and is not a part of this project.
It looks like they just grassed over the Caleres one, but then again, they don't even show Topton cutting through the campus to Maryland. Again, renderings.
^ The aerial rendering shows a building on the visitor lot. It's the one you have circled. They just misplaced Topton in the rendering.
Got it - I do see that now.sc4mayor wrote: ↑May 06, 2022^ The aerial rendering shows a building on the visitor lot. It's the one you have circled. They just misplaced Topton in the rendering.
It's interesting to see the alternatives to the CRG/LJC proposal. Differing renderings are posted on the LJC and Clayco websites but nothing is posted on the CRG one yet.
The renderings from the LJC website show a different hotel design, larger central building, no central plaza, and taller condo buildings on the eastern side of the project. The Caleres office building looks unchanged.

Those renders from LJC look awfully nice. As usual, details and materials will make or break the final product, but this looks to be some of the nicest architecture to hit Clayton in quite some time. I'd love to see it built as shown.
Interesting how the Clayco proposal incorporates a hotel into new development as well as the fact that Wells Fargo west downtown campus rebuild is essentially a hotel development in place of commercial space. Curious if this will be a new trend for a while where you see corporate HQs do some downsizing in space, which has been a trend ever since the pandemic, but now also look to add hotel amenities at the front entrance which would cater very well to Hybrid and remote workers that can essentially be from anywhere but have a handy dandy location to stay at when visiting the home office? Maybe it won't be too long before use see a hotel proposed within Centene's footprint even though not sure if Clayton CBD would need as such.
