I look forward to more crane porn in the BJC area.... I'm pretty sure the McKinley and STLCOP cranes will be coming down before too long so it will be nice to continue to have multiple erections with this one going up.

It also make sense now of what is going on with the construction of that smaller office building going up on Taylor that I was curious about upthread.... it will be the new Storz office building replacing the current one that will be demolished for the new tower. Great that this office building will be right by the metrolink station as well... hopefully it'll add some more ridership.

The Metrolink ride from Central West End station to Vandeventer is quickly shifting from post-industrial wasteland to gleaming contemporary office buildings, research centers, and Swedish furniture vendors.

Biz Journal reports the Coal Bunker tower will have a cafe and bookstore so it'll be nice to have a bit of retail right by the metrolink station.

It's directly north of and next to the CWE Metrolink station, and basically will be looming over it. In the rendering the length of the building is running east-west. Those parallel lines in the lower right (that go on to run behind the building) are where the tracks and station platform are.

if I have my bearings right the tower will replace the two-story brown building (the Storz Building) on the middle upper portion of the photo

via Herbie Markwort & nextstl

So it basically will be on Children's Place between the hospital and the parking garage/bus transfer center directly north of the Metrolink station.

Got it; thanks.

I checked out the site on Google Maps, and it's really amazing how much CWE/Midtown construction is visible in Satellite view.

^ I take it that is the "Coal Bunker" Building that will replace the Storz building.

If this turns out to be the final design for the 200,000 square foot residential hall, STLCOP is getting modern design right.

I hope it inspires other local architects and developers to design more daring buildings in St. Louis.

From Forum Studios: "The facility will integrate the student center, dining hall, competition gym, recreation center, and residence hall into a vibrant vertical hub of activity."

Pretty nice. I agree, hopefully these modern designs will inspire other local developers/institutions to be more daring.

I believe it is going on the lot where Paric's construction trailer is sitting in this Streetview shot. There's also a surface parking lot there.

New renderings of WUSM/BJC Mid-Campus Center building. According to the source, the project will start in June 2015 and will be completed in November 2016. The building will be 510,000 square feet with a basement. Roughly 42,500sf on each floor.

I guess they are trying to maximize the footprint with such a fat/wide building, but 34,000 sf per floor would yield 15-floors. And 30,000 sf would yield 17-floors.

I know it's a different footprint, but this is the latest proposal for Houston's Texas Medical Center.

Yeah, I was thinking earlier that the new BJC building had an awfully big footprint; maybe they're including provision for future vertical expansion.

BTW, as big as the whole Wash U/BJC complex is, that Texas Medical Center is in a whole other league:

So is that in the space adjacent to that parking garage/bus depot (just to the West)? Is the garage staying up? I can't tell from the renderings whether it's being built in the garage's space or not, but that garage is pretty new and they'd have to move the bus depot, so I'm doubting it.

From Claycorp.com
Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare just announced plans to build a new 12-story office building at their growing medical campus in the Central West End.

The 510,000-square-foot building includes a full basement and will be located next to the Central West End MetroLink station and will consolidate medical offices currently housed at the Barnes-Jewish Center for Outpatient Health and across the Washington University medical campus community.

The project will start in June 2015 and will be completed in November 2016.
The new rendering looks more polished. The base seems to resemble the base of the new BJC/Wash U towers currently under construction.

Pylons and support structures for the elevated people mover connecting the new massive garages to the campus are taking shape. Definitely noticeable from Taylor Ave.
