I think they still have one more level to go, for the roof.

Anybody else notice those power lines on Taylor blocking the exact path of the proposed elevated walkway? What are they going to do with those? Lift them up higher?

Looks like the last I-beams will be put in place tomorrow. Incredible to think this was still a hole in the ground as recently as October.

Noticed this close to the Metrolink garage on the north side of the street near the new building.

Its a tiny area I know but just the idea of limiting pedestrian access irks me.

They had to. That's darn near within spittin' distance of The Forest Park Light Mounted Dragoons.
I don't think this was mentioned before, but the Mid-Campus Center that's going up will be home to a Kaldi's. Fantastic location for a coffee shop in my opinion.
Looks like the building is topped out. Curtain wall starting to go in on the third floor. ![]()

Does the vacated street have anything to do with extending the metrolink platform?

Do we know any future plans at Taylor and Forest Park Pkwy? The lots are owned by WashU and Barnes, but all seem very underutilized.
The old Central Institute for the Deaf and Shriner's buildings are going to be renovated for student housing.

Sadly, it sounds like the old 10-story Olin dormitory will be torn down. Too bad, because it's a great-looking Mid-Century mid-rise. Apparently not very functional, though.

Let's keep in mind that Olin won't be scheduled to be torn down for at least a few years. It'll be utilized as the hotel space of sorts for other offices while they continue to shuffle and renovate the entire BJC campus. I'm betting that we'll hear of a replacement building in its place prior to it actually getting demolished.
I'm sure most of you have seen the article about the top-floor restaurant at Queeny Tower closing to the public on Nov. 14th. Lots of interesting history about the building, but no mention of its proposed demolition and replacement with a new structure. In fact, it says that "the restaurant will remain open for carry-out orders for employees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and also for catered events." Could Wash U/BJC be re-considering demolition? Seems like it would logical point to mention if the tower's days were numbered.

If you haven't been to the restaurant, I highly recommend going before it's too late. The sweeping views of Forest Park are quite impressive.
Anyone have the inside scoop?

Just had meetings in the morning up on 17 for the bulk of the last two weeks. It appeared to still be open.

I can second the comment on the views. The views from the bridge connecting Queeny Tower to the main building are among the best in the city: good view of Forest Park, the Central West End . . . You can see well in all directions, thanks to the prominence of the building. The very best view, in my opinion, is that from the top of the Continental Building, but it wasn't then and is not now public, so far as I'm aware. Sadly. Queeny Tower may be the best public view, and it's almost certainly the best free view.

It appears this is about to begin but will be market rate units instead of limited to student housing.framer wrote:The old Central Institute for the Deaf and Shriner's buildings are going to be renovated for student housing.

Since this project will be "owned by a for-profit university affiliate", does that mean the City will be able to collect some tax revenue?
Yes, a non-profit can't receive HTCs anymore. The apt biuldings they rehabbed in SD were put under for-profit Parallel Properties and put on the tax roles.

Tartlton has construction fencing up and around 4480 Clayton Ave (Southeast corner of Taylor and Clayton. It appears the parking lot on the East side, adjacent to the Shriners Hospital parking lot, has been torn up as well and heavy equipment is still on site.
I'm unable to find any info on what this may be either here, on NextSTL, WashU's Campus Renewal site, CORTEX's site, etc etc. Anyone have the inside scoop?
