I don't know how to re-size but the second pic could use it if anyone knows how.
Great updates! Looks like it's almost there. Hopefully some tenants are getting lined up.
Some parts of the building are already opening: Barnes-Jewish touts new outpatient center
No word on retail tenants as yet. I've heard rumors of a mini-grocery/prepared food vendor, but not from someone in a position to actually know
Several outpatient clinics at Barnes-Jewish Hospital are set to open Tuesday along with administrative office space in a new 12-story building at Forest Park and Euclid avenues.

“We are looking ahead to a complete transformation of the campus, and this phase is the first piece of the puzzle being put in place,” says Richard Liekweg, Barnes-Jewish Hospital president. “I want all employees and physicians to become as excited as I am about creating a new patient-care experience on campus that also will influence how we fulfill our teaching and research role.”

For those wanting to hear more about the proposed changes, the BJC president will be presenting at a meeting at Rosati-Kain Saturday (5/5) morning at 9:15 (from the Central West End Association):
Richard Liekweg, President, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and Group President, BJC Healthcare will be presenting on: Washington University Medical Center Campus Renewal 2021 – Preserving the Past and Preparing for the Future. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the Central West End’s largest employer and a major anchor in the community.
All are welcome. The community forum event is sponsored by the Central West End Association.

CEO said the replacement for Queeny will be "bigger, not necessarily taller."
Obviously there is no building proposal as of yet, but I am really hoping for something in the 400-500 ft range. Would be nice to anchor the CWE skyline.

^That would look pretty sweet. But I don't think that's a possibility. Its a hospital. So how do you get sick or bed-ridden people out of the building when you're up 400-500 feet in the air during emergency evacuation situations? That's a lot of stairs. Just a thought.

According to a few websites, there are some decently tall hospitals throughout the world. London has one listed as 500 feet. Houston has one at 477 and Chicago has one at 402.
There are not a ton of examples of this, but it is certainly not impossible. Those listed above were all built in the 90's or earlier, so I would assume with advances in technology and construction, one could be built now that would be plenty safe for use.

You put the sickest people on the bottom floors. Keep the upper floors for sick, but can still walk.pat wrote:^That would look pretty sweet. But I don't think that's a possibility. Its a hospital. I attended the presentation yesterday and could not help but point out to BJC's CEO that though his presentation was titled 'preserving the past,..', phase 1 of the proposed project begins with demolition of the two oldest BJC buildings on Kingshighway.

^ And to that he said? In this case I'm not sympathetic to those buildings at all. I think the space is needed for dense development of the medical center. Perhaps the original Shriners and CID are different (though they're likely doomed as well). It's a positive that CORTEX will preserve some (unlikely) buildings.
He uncomfortably told me that there were divergent interest groups and they were trying to balance out how to do right by everyone. I did not think those buildings would be saved but I also did not want them to think that what they are proposing is without any negatives.
As someone who is out walking my dog, I would rather walk by this density:

than be subjected to this density:

Ofcourse I understand the greater good argument. Unfortunately it is used all to often in this town.

I thought the Children's building was engineered for the addition of several floors; so why are they spreading out, rather than building up?
BJC goes local by selecting HOK, look forward to seeing what develops, sit back this will probably move slow,

If you've been following the most recent projects, Center for Advanced Medicine/Parkway Hotel, BioMed21 + plaza and the BJC headquarters/outpatient building, I'm guessing that's about the pace you'll see moving forward - a big project basically always being built. If that means 4-5 large buildings over the next 8 years (and don't forget CORTEX), it will be quite transformational.

Per KC Bus Journal, a Whole Foods is set to go on UMKC development @ 51st & Oak.
"VanTrust and DST Systems Inc. (NYSE: DST) will lease the property, which also will include market-rate apartments and perhaps office space for the school."
It seems to me there could be this kind of potential for the WU Medical campus.

BJC awards $1 billion project to St. Louis team of contractors:
I didn't realize the Metro stop would be redone:A consortium of three St. Louis construction companies won a billion-dollar job to expand and renovate BJC HealthCare's Central West End campus over the next decade, the hospital company announced Friday. Alberici Corp., Clayco Corp. and S.M. Wilson Co. joined forces as ACW Alliance to capture the BJC job.
Included in the project is a rebuilt Central West End MetroLink station on Euclid and addition of 2,400 parking spaces.

^ I have no particular knowledge of plans for the MetroLink station, but if you check out the videos, etc. envisioning changes at the medical campus, you see a plaza with buildings and a covered - basically underground - station. I've been surprised at how determined the entities at the medical campus seem to be to get that station rebuilt. I guess they think the industrial-ish view upon arrival doesn't reflect well on a modern medical facility. The challenge is that they aren't really able to close the station (ala Grand), in my opinion, due to its heavy use. At least it appears that the idea of moving the station to Kingshighway is being left behind.

2400 spaces sounds like A LOT. Anyone have any comparable statistic to determine about how large of a garage this would be?
- 11K
The two Kiener garages downtown have 2,400 spaces combined. Each of the East/West stadium garages have ~2,550 spaces. 2,400 new spaces many seem like a lot, but there are probably 10K+ spaces in parking garages at the medical campus already. The garage under Hudlin Park next to Queeny Tower has 1,900 spaces. Any expansion in the hospitals, schools, research, etc. will increase demand and several surface lots are slated for development.
