Great to see and hear. Thanks for the update.
The Jacksonville Persepctive on Elements of Urbanism: St. louis Neighborhoods link that Gary Kreie posted includes this photo taken in August, showing the construction of the new BJC building.
Here's a pair of photos I recently took of the ongoing construction.

The intersection of FP and Euclid has really been transformed over the last 5 - 10 years. Now I'd love to see a sliver building go up on Tom's parking lot.
Don't forget to throw in financing for Mills proposed residential on Euclid.
Between this and the Park East, Laclede sure looks a lot different now than it did a few years back.

The whole Euclid corridor from FPA to Lindell is aiming for 10+ stories.

^^That is a great picture Ben. The building is still on the way up too!
^^^^Framer, do you have a picture of Tom's parking lot? Where is that lot located?
^It's on the corner of Forest Park Parkway and Euclid:

I'm kind of surprised nothing has been built there yet. It seems like it's a valuable piece of real estate to use as a parking lot, seems like the owner isn't getting the best bang for his buck here. Then again, we do like our corner parking lots in St. Louis

I understand that the owner isn't selling for any cost and doesn't particularly care what it's worth. The Tom's regulars demand parking immediately next door - and so it is.

^Then it is a good thing people are mortal, isn't it?
We'll see. If this area continues to build up I would be very interested to see what his reaction would be if someone brought in a briefcase with a whole lot of cash in it.
This particular lot just got a lot more valuable with the monolith next store virtually ensuring downtown views for years to come.

The rumor at BJH is that the retail part of this is going to be another Schnuck's Culinaria.

Interesting. I hope it's true.Survivor147 wrote:The rumor at BJH is that the retail part of this is going to be another Schnuck's Culinaria.
^ I was thinking the same thing, Moorlander. The new BJC HQ building and the Schnucks on Lindell are within a mile of each other. Seems too close to me.
I'd imagine a Culinaria there wouldn't cannibalize the Lindell store's business as much as it would steamroll Straub's.
Have to agree with Ben, this wouldn't impact their full service supermarket on Lindell but hit Straub's
Another thought, it will cater to the workforce at BarnesJewish in the fact that Schnucks might trying to capture the impulsive buy before workers get in their car who might otherwise might stop on their way home for milk, etc. In that respects, BarnesJewish might have been knocking on Schnucks door first.
My wife would stop at Culinaria downtown before heading home after work a lot of times. It was a convenient walk from ATT Center and a way to stretch the legs between the office chair and car seat..

A Culineria there would be 2 blocks from me! My wife and I already go to the Culineria downtown to do all our grocery shopping (with a quick stop to the Soulard market, on occasion). We both prefer the smaller format store as it's quicker and easier to get around and find things. We once went to the new Des Peres Schnucks and my wife almost had an anxiety attack from all the people, the size of the place, not being able to find anything. Straub's is great for picking up an occasional item, but it's too expensive to do normal grocery shopping.
For something completely different, is anybody else bothered by the wedge of space between this building and the adjacent parking garage? I look at it and wonder why they didn't build the west wall perpendicular to Euclid and Forest Park.

FWIW - I know many people who refuse to shop at the Lindell Schnuck's. I go there from time to time, but generally go to the store on Clayton Road. It's 2min farther, but much better.Moorlander wrote:Really? There is already a schnucks in the CWE.

Yeah, the Lindell Schnuck's is definitely on the trashy side.Alex Ihnen wrote:FWIW - I know many people who refuse to shop at the Lindell Schnuck's. There is really no excuse for the Schnucks on Lindell to be in the condition its in...Now that there is the little slice of grocery heaven downtown (a small store with everything I need at prices that are fair in an attractive environment with check out lines that move and butchers who will cook your meat...consistently enticing specials...free parking...Im sorry, did I type that out loud)
Like I was saying, I don't frequent the Schnucks on Lindell anymore because I have something closer...
But, I wonder why Schuncks allows a location to exist in such poor condition?
I don't think the roof is about to fall in or the food is bad...I guess it is a store that gets a lot of traffic is just woefully tired in appearance...?
