Maurizios is easily my favorite new york/jersey style pizza in St. Louis, I think it blows Ferraros away-even though I love that place.

At least you're an optimist ;)

As far as Maurizio's, I love that joint. I used to eat there every time I visited St Louis but haven't been back ever since I moved here. Think I may take my parents by there tomorrow!

While I like Maurizo's and get it fairly often, Ferraro's is better.

Thanks for the feedback RE Katie's. I'll have to give it a shot at some point. Perhaps things have improved.

Pizza by the slice: Ferraro's is great but I had BT Pizza on Washington this past weekend and I really enjoyed their pizza! :) (I vote for both.)

B&T Pizza has recently changed ownership and the recipe is different. Can't say that I've tried it yet, however. What say the masses?

Changed ownership already? It's only been open, what, four months.

I vote for Ferraro's. mmm

I saw this today from the Daily Sauce email:

Broccoli O’Bama

Pi, the hip pizzeria in the East Loop, rolled out a new pizza this month to commemorate the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. Seems hundreds of Obama staffers and volunteers frequented the restaurant during the campaign's many trips to St. Louis – even Obama himself dined on Pi after that huge rally under the Arch. While walking back from the event, Sommers received a phone call from Obama, proclaiming, "This is the best pizza I have ever eaten."

Really?

I knew something was different when I was there 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if there was a new owner. The pizza still seemed pretty much the same, but the guy in there was rather annoying.

Can anyone confirm the change? (Bonwich?) If true that's a pretty quick change.

^The girl at the counter told me the pizza sauce had changed, and she hoped I liked it, and there was an annoying guy in there talking about the stuff he was adding to the menu. Some of the prep tables had been moved around as well. To a rather odd location, actually. The guy was making food practically on the front counter.

Both McCain and Obama's favorite foods were listed as pizza. Not too surprising considering it's one of America's most populist eats. You didn't think they'd say beluga caviar, did you?

Of all the candidates, Obama mentioned pizza most often on his website for a total of 1,380 times! Ref: http://slice.seriouseats.com/archives/2 ... inees.html

Political candidates, pay heed.

I hear the Copia folks own it now. Same team that's putting the diner in next door as well.

Well, I think my verdict is in after eating at Maurizio's today.

Maurizio's vs. Feraro's

For taste; Maurizio's

For price; both are about the same

For location; both are great, though I'm partial to eating outside on a nice day in Soulard.

For friendly service; definitely Feraro's.

So, I guess my verdict isn't really in. It will just depend on the weather and/or atmosphere we are looking for.

It was like they were missing a person tonight, when we came in it was a lot of "Hey do you know how to take orders up here?" "No, I don't." blah blah. The guy that finally took our order was waiting on our debit transaction to go through when a phone call came in. "Maurizio's" he answers. Another guy walks up, grabs the phone out of his hand, says "I have to call Tony," and hangs up on the person calling. Unbelievable. If I was the person calling and heard the idiot, I don't know if I'd be back.

Also while placing the order, the guy was in a hurry, so my wife says the pizza we want, and he hurriedly says "That it?" and holds his hand out for our debit. We continue the order, and as she is getting in her purse for the card, he holds his hand out the entire time for the card. Nothing like feeling like you are a bother to the staff!

While I like some chain pizzas, chain hamburgers, chain anything, I find this is the general rule of thumb always!

Yes, CS, I realize it's not "quality" pizza, but I don't care. I love the stuff!

Just the Affton one when Shelly's working. She's not a nice person: to anyone.

The Kirkwood location seems to be better run.

There's no dearth of great pizza places in St. Louis, but my hands-down favorite is Feraro's. And whenever I'm in the mood for St. Louis style pizza, I choose Cecil's. The Cecil's location by my house is great, and the nearest Imo's absolutely sucks, so I don't even give Imo's a second thought.
