No love for Cecil Whitaker's? Certainly the best value.

Only pizza I have had in STL is Imo's, Fortel's, and Pointer's Delivery. Liked all of them so far.

Alfonzo's Pizza. Gotta drive over to Maryville, IL, but its worth it! I've never had anything else quite like it. Square, brick oven, thin but chewy crust...one of my all time favorites.

Technically, cheese on a piece of cardboard is a better value. And probably tastes about the same.

Top Pizza Places

- Pizzeria della Piazza: The best Chicago-style pizza in St. Louis, hands down.

- Pi: Gets consistently rave reviews. I must visit soon.

- Dewey's: I have enjoyed coming here with friends. The pizza is extremely tasty.

- Vito's - Scrumptious gourmet pizza

- Il Vicino: Tasty, wood oven pizza.

- Joanies: Great thin crust

- Fortel's: Amazing mom and pop pizza joint

Best place to get pizza-by-the-slice?

B&T Pizza (I enjoy it and it's conveniently located! I love being able to enjoy pizza without having to buy a whole pie and end up overeating in the process!)

I was just at Fortel's for the first time this weekend and agree completely. I had doubts when I entered the restaurant but their pizza had a crispy thin crust and was packed with ingredients and full of flavor. Excellent!

Can't forget good old Frank & Helen's on Olive in U. City!

Also, isn't Pi (across from the Pageant) supposed to be great? Haven't been there yet.

You don't like StL style pie, we get the point. Your obsession with letting us know that must be keeping you from your work CS. Just let the dead horse be.

Where did I say that? Perhaps you need a reading comprehension course? Ouch, that's embarassing.

Yep, Fortel's is good. Even if someone didn't like them, they ceratinly can't be accused of skimping on toppings.

I win, apparently. Since you can't show where I said I didn't like St. Louis style pizza.

My favorite-- for quick delivery, great taste and good value-- would be Cecil's. As far as sit-down places, I always liked Cicero's in U-City.

I also have a "least-favorite": Papa Johns. The first time I ever called to order from them, they put me on hold and never came back to the phone. I had to call them back, and was put on hold again (at least it was only for a minute that time). The pizza took an hour to arrive. It was cold, stuck to the inside lid of the box, and it was sorely lacking in toppings. :hell: I said "never again!"

That has to be the largest pizza I have ever seen. The Pointersaurus I think its called.

These two guys, I guess college students, were put into a competition to see who could finish all the pizza in one sitting. I don't either guy could.

They used to have a similar monstrous (36"?) pizza at Talaynas. Not sure if they still offer it. The deal was something like: if no more than two people could finish the pizza in a limited amount of time, it was free. Makes my stomach ache just thinking about it....

The Pointersaurus pizza contest: a two-man team has 1-hour to finish an entire 28" pizza with a minimum of two generously applied meat toppings. A 28" pizza between two people is the equivalent of 2 14" large pizzas per erson.

Tips: Choose lean meats for your toppings (e.g. do NOT order sausage or bacon). Do not starve yourself prior to the ordeal; you can eat more pizza if you have a light breakfast beforehand.

My freshmnan roommate tried his freshman tried to contest his freshman year; they realized they were going to fail when they started nicknaming the bacon "asteroids." He tried again his senior year and, after some training, he and a friend became the sixth team to successfully complete the challenge.

^Mr. X's Pizza on Morgan Ford just south of Bates has a huge pizza. I saw the empty box once at a bar. It took up an entire table, I think it was a 40 incher.

Hey I thought I should update this; I tried Pantera's Pizza about 2 weeks ago and it was mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........AWFUL. Worst pizza I've ever had. Tasted like... somewhere in between douche water and a turd sandwich.

A 28" pizza is actually equivalent to 4 14" pizzas. Pi(r)^2.

Either way, too much food for me!

Hm, funny you bring up Pantera's. There's one in Edwardsville and that's where a lot of the kids from my school (myself included) go pretty much everytime we have a short day (every 2nd Tuesday of each month). I'm not crazy about the pizza, but we go because we're a bunch of broke high school kids and the lunch buffet is a deal. Though I must say, their cinnamon stick things are delicious.

I think Alfonzo's in Maryville, IL (of all places) is worth mentioning. I've had a lot of pizza and theirs is still the best that I have had. You would think that a place attatched to a Family Fun Time wouldn't have that great of pizza, but it is amazing.

I'm one of those people who can eat a pizza from Chuck E Cheese or even Pizza Hut and say "Damn, I love pizza." But Pantera's was truly a slap in the face to all pizza eaters and/or fat asses in the city of Maplewood (I'm glad it's not in St. Louis city. I would feel dirty).

I don't know how many pizzas I've had that I actually ate and went "Damn. I think I'll go gargle a bucket of diarrhea to get that taste out of my mouth," because pizza is usually good no matter what.

Thick crust: Black Thorn/Lemmon's.

Thin crust: Imo's. This WAS pizza to me growing up, and the effete mewlings of the anti-provel elitists will never change that.

Biggest a**holes: Fortel's. Went to the Affton restaurant with a large family group several years ago. They screwed up our order, blamed us for the screwup, and refused to fix the order. Great place to eat for those who enjoy being ripped off and treated like sh*t.

I used to live across the street from the Pantera's in Edwardsville, I can confirm that it tastes SO much better than the "Pantera's" in Maplewood. I can't believe they're part of the same chain (which used to be so much larger)

I've been to Fortel's a million times. Good pizza, never had a problem. I suspect it was your fault.
