I didn't know anything about Fortel's before and was hoping to try it this weekend when I return. I'll probably eat at one on the east side and HOPE that the service isn't poor.

Thin crust: Imo's. This WAS pizza to me growing up, and the effete mewlings of the anti-provel elitists will never change that.

Biggest a**holes: Fortel's. Went to the Affton restaurant with a large family group several years ago. They screwed up our order, blamed us for the screwup, and refused to fix the order. Great place to eat for those who enjoy being ripped off and treated like sh*t.

I've been to Fortel's a million times. Good pizza, never had a problem. I suspect it was your fault.

No, Shelly Fortel has a real history of being a jerk and it spreading to some of her employees. I've never had any issues, but have heard stories from friends and coworkers. It was a lot friendlier place when her dad was running it.

The manager of the Kirkwood location is a real nice guy and seem to resolve conflicts professionally.

Had the stuff from Fortel's in Kirkwood and think it is great pizza.

Always liked Balducci's as well.

Not that it was the best Za in st. louis, but Pizzeria Della Piazza on the Hill has officially closed its doors. I would liken it's thin crust pie to Fortels.

I suspect they treated you right because they know a fellow a**hole when they see one. Professional courtesy and all that.

And what is your behavior reminiscent of, oh pious one?

A shame Pizza della Piazza is closed. They had the most authentic Chicago-style pizza in St. Louis. Black Thorn is great, but not overly authentic.

I like Maurizio's...

You know what? Forget it. It's well-known who the pricks are on these forums, even to a lurker like me. I'm not gonna get dragged into their booger-flicking contest.

Haven't had that in ages. Greasy, but tasty, IIRC. The place always seemed kinda shady to me though.

I LOVE Maurizio's, but never hear too many people giving it love. I haven't been there ever since I moved to the area though that I can recall. I'm gonna have to hit it up soon.

Is Maurizio's the place downtown on or around Olive and 10th?

thanks! I've been meaning to try that place sometime. Right now my pizza of choice is Ferraro's.

Pantera's was my favorite as a kid--they used to be all over the place in the early 80's (anyone else remember the commercials with Mario?) so I was excited to hear there are still a couple in existence.

But when we were at Saratoga Lanes recently and some folks had it delivered there it did not look or smell too appealing. It's a shame when stuff from your childhood hits rock bottom. Sort of like seeing your favorite baseball player as a kid and now he's fat, bald and pathetic.

Had Pantara's from teh Dellwood location a few weeks back and thought it was pretty good. A favorite memory of the youth was playing Indoor soccer up at Dellwood and enjoying pies from Pantara afterward. Good times.

Give the Pantera's in Maplewood a try, because I want to know if everyone thinks it sucks as bad as I do. Like I said, I enjoy pizza from just about anywhere, so for me to not like one prepared "fresh" at a pizzeria bothers me.

Just had Feraro's for the first time. Incredible. Great area, great weather, great pizza.

Gave Joanie's a shot on Sunday. Wife didn't care for the pizza, but I thought it was really good. Also love the atmosphere and location.

Don't forget Katie's Pizzeria in Clayton. I've heard great things about this joint. Met her at Herbies and found her to be pretty amusing. Ref: http://www.yelp.com/biz/katies-pizzeria ... Xnwl-wCQBQ

Katies pizza is TERRIBLE...You could make a much tastier pizza with leftovers in your kitchen. What I rec'd was comparable to the pizza that BreadCo/Panera offers/offered. I cannot understand why anyone would go there unless they are related to Katie.

You can already tell the bad word has gotten out about the place. When Katie's first opened they would have big crowds regardless of time and day of the week. Just a few months later if you drive by on what should be a busy weekend night, the restaurant is half full.

I live within walking distance and all three times I ate there we were unsatisfied with the food and frustrated with the service.
