The plan to be finished in Feb 2024!
A two-year construction timeframe, seems typical to me, especially for something like this that requires demolition, excavation and some other stuff.

Stltoday - Clayton gives final approval for Bemiston Place mixed-use development

https://www.stltoday.com/business/local ... 8ad43.html
I find it surprising that we won't see work actually start here for another year and a half, but it also makes some sense. I don't really pay attention, but are the businesses in the buildings targeted for demolition still open? Maybe this is their period to find a new home.
Barcelona and Nami Ramen I think are the only 2 left. Someone previously mentioned Nami has another spot lined up. I haven’t heard about Barcelona.

Because this is the most recent thread to mention his name, I guess I'll post this here.

Fred Kummer passed away at the age of 92.

^He may not have been perfect, but he was a decent man with his heart in the right place and a real love for our city. In the long run, I feel certain his legacy will have a more lasting positive impact on St. Louis than some people far wealthier and more famous.

He sure was a guy who got things done. My only gripe was his perceived lack of esthetic taste.

I certainly won't disagree with you there, but in the end I suppose I much prefer a decent person with lousy taste in art to a grinch with impeccable taste. I can agree to disagree about aesthetics, even if I care quite a lot more passionately than I should.

Will be interesting to watch how his legacy takes shape at Missouri S&T.

Notice of Public Hearing posted on Bemiston.  Hearing on 7/27/21 at 7:00 p.m.
Reading in a layman's understanding, the Notice said it was for an amendment to the Land Use Code that would combine the Central Business District and the Downtown Core District "and adopt development standards and design standards within the District."
It points to the City website, but I don't see the language there yet.

What do you want to bet that the coolest features of that design, the historic warehouse homage and the walkup townhouses, will be the most controversial among Clayton residents and officials, and will be the first to be nixed?

Wouldn't those have been shot down during the architectural review board process? I thought the project moved beyond that with all necessary approvals, jus they're waiting on tenant leased to expire and final amendments to be made before starting construction next year.

The Report to be addressed at the public hearing is actually on the website. It's a master planning document not only for this site but for several blocks in Clayton. Looks for the Final Report under Downtown Overlay Development and Design Standards Amendments. A lot of massing studies and illustrations if you are into that kind of thing.

A construction gate is up at Bemiston Place and utility workers are on site today.  Forsyth Point is in the background.

Seems like they're on schedule. This is from December 23rd, 2020...
Steve Brown, with developer Balke Brown Transwestern, said plans are to finalize purchase of land by November 2021, demolish all buildings but the Shanley facility, start construction in February of 2022 and open the project in February 2024.

yep they had concrete blocks blocking the parking on Saturday. Meant to get on here and post it.

What are they doing with the building they are saving. Apparently the DMV is gone.

I know there's a thread for the Bemiston Place development in Clayton but I can't find it, the search on this site is broken, or something. Anyway, the former clayton vehicle license building looks like...something drastic happened to it. Anyone know what's going on? Did it lose any kind of chance of being preserved? I have more photos coming next week, but here's one:

Wow that is absolutely crazy, I was there in 2020 for plate renewal and it looked dated, but not like an abandoned nuclear fallout shelter.

This was intentional- there was a crew there about a month ago chiseling and jackhammering stucco or concrete off of it.   The back corner on the Bemiston side has some exposed concrete blocks.
