They don't want the public to think it is another Kiel Opera House deception, but they are not giving us much to work with. Like all the other people who attend the baseball sellouts, I eat in the suburbs, go down for the game, and then go back to the suburbs after the game to spend money. Ballpark Village tenants haven't pocketted a nickel from me in these two wasted years.
June 1, 2005 - Cordish Co. won the "competition" for redeveloper of the old Busch Stadium site. They obviously invested a great deal of time and money into research, preparing a concept and plans, and having preliminary discussions with potential tenants prior to that.
June 19, 2001 - Agreement between the Cardinals, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and the State of Missouri signed for $646M Ballpark and Ballpark Village
IIRC, the original renderings of Ballpark Village were released in 2000, but I can't seem to find the exact date. The concept and renderings for BPV have not changed significantly since their original release.
So, for all intents and purposes, the Cardinals and Cordish have had two years to finalize the plans, get the financing in place, and get letters of intent signed, and they have not even selected a GC yet. The Cardinals had four years prior to that to negotiate the financing details for BPV and to select a developer.
On the positive side, the major announcements for BPV all seem to come in June, so maybe we can expect something by the end of next week...
