^ I'm just saying that consumer and developer decision hinge on some pretty small things - were there unsavory characters hanging out on the street corner where I want to build/buy a condo, were the sidewalks clean, are there businesses or business opportunities close by, is the stoplight at the corner working correctly? All of these things and a million more factor into these decisions. Why is it smart to keep your yard mower, newspapers picked up and a few lights on when you're selling a place that's empty? There's no real value - it's perception. For many years downtown has not been perceived as dead. No one (sane) would argue that someone happy on a cul-de-sac in Whereversville is going to suddenly demand a loft downtown. Not to mention that no one (sane) would think people move to a city based on an All-Star game. That's not the challenge in real estate development - it's finding those who are inclined to buy your product anyway and pushing/pulling them in.

I hope that the new construction of the BPV will encourage the TV cameras to use some new views of the city when segwaying into commercial than the same two that are ALWAYS used:

1) Kiener Plaza in foreground with Old Courthouse and Arch Behind

2) Arch view from Illinois side with river in foreground.

There is nothing wrong with these camera shots, but I want some more variety.

What other city shots should they show during the '09 All-Star Game?

What is the potential financial gain to STL? My guess is $5-6 million in revenue, but would like to know if someone has more exact numbers.

Ok - is that turnover or pure profit? Don't forget, the city is going to have to spend a lot of money to get everything up to standard for an all-star game. Not $40 million worth, but probably a few million - maybe more depending. Or is MLB going to foot the bill on all local advertisements?

Bud Selig puts the estimated financial impact at $75 million. The mayor of San Francisco is touting a $40 - $80 million economic impact for the 2007 All-Star game.

It's a big event - will definately help all those new retail shops downtown.

I was in Milwaukee a few years ago when they hosted the All Star Game.

IMHO it seems like about the same impact as the World Series.

In regards to other camera shots that should be used (fromthelou above), some other shots I have seen used that were good:

the Basin/boathouse in Forest Park

The Loop (camera was panning the walk of fame)

Inside BB's or Broadwa Oyster Bar while bands are playing (personal favs)

Some that should be used:

Anything down Washington

Metrolink in action (esp at Busch station or in one of the new tunnels)

In a kitchen in a local bar prepping some toasted ravioli (hey, they always show some dude piling on the cheesesteak during games in Philly)

The St Louis Statue at the art museum

The West End (ie driving down Euclid)

Inside Patty O's

From a condo balcony of BPV

The skyline coming up I-55 from the south

Perhaps Publiceye could post a link to Mayor Slay's most recent campaign commercials, which were basically quick shots showing good things that have happened in the city over the past few years.

Interior shots of the Pin-up Bowl are especially attractive.

The Oakland A's are proposing a Ballpark Village in Fremont. The owner metioned something like San Jose's Santana Row as part of the ballpark village. Last year I was in San Jose and ate dinner at Santana Row. I thought at the time that the St. Louis Ballpark Village could end up like that -- shops and restaurants on lower level streetscape, and condos and appartments above.

I went to Cordish's office this week. The office itself is built out very nicely- lots of flat screens displaying the BPV. The 3D model of BPV and downtown is really cool. I'm very excited about this project. Phase 1 will include building everything except for two towers, which will be built later. So, there will not be empty blocks waiting to be developed. There are plans for a nice grocery store, a restaurant row, boutique row. It will be an excellent addition to the city. Once this is complete, along with Pinnacle downtown, I think St. Louis is going to see MANY more tourists.

why can't they release the renderings? Am I wrong - they've never released the official rendering have they?

Cordish has said that what we see is what we'll get. The most recent images that have been posted on this thread are accurate as to size and proportion, although some of the materials and detailing may change.

but weren't those images scooped covertly? They've never had a grand presentation from what I can tell .... you'd think they would

They did have a grand presentation. There were several news organizations present, and it was covered by the papers.

how did i miss that? They released official renderings? I thought the renderiungs we had were scooped by a radio station reporter who happened to gain access to their $250,000.00 model .. I don;t ever recall Cordish or the Cardinals releasing "official" renderings (at least not since they were proposing the village and the stadium together)

There are 2 renderings on Cordish' website, I have not seen them before but I am usually the last to be notified of anything.

Encore! I want more pretty pictures! Thanks for posting those, where did they come from? I would have approached it a little differently, but overall, I think it will work.
