I didn't necessarily like the article either.

Plus, I don't understand the hesitation in regards to building residential towers around there. An initial speculative residential tower near the ballpark and Cupples Station would rent easily - easily.

^ DeWitt bought out Cordish from their development agreement, Hired Biondi as a Real Estate Consultant and will declare victory when they set aside a corner of the new parking lot for some grass, wrought iron fencing and a sculpture!! But don't expect the sculpture right away, they have to get a tax credit passed in the Mo Statehouse session.

So....what was the big news, exactly? Nothing on STLToday and the live feed, of course, is showing nothing related to this.

The announcement this AM regarded the placement of a huge steel beam to anchor one side of the retractable roof that will cover the Live! event space. Was manufactured in St. Louis, FWIW.

The rendition of the Live! space looks pretty kewl. According to the drawing I saw, it will not be another Kiener Plaza, large gathering spot with nothing to do. The Live! space will feature bars, TV's, large circular seating areas, etc. It will be a great spot for families to linger (given the restaurant/museum scene added to the mix) before and after games.

I took this photo Tuesday from the ballpark. It shows some of the structure up for Ballpark Village.

Thanks for the great photo update. Does it look like Phase 1 will block views of the Old Courthouse from right field?

I certainly hope so. Of course, I'd rather it be a 30-story highrise doing the blocking, like they originally planned.

My thoughts too. As much as I'm rooting for Vertical Realty to win the bid for Cupples 7, I can't help but think that, if they can secure the financing to rehab Cupples, maybe instead they could secure the financing for a smart mid-to-high-rise residential/office tower. If it were a this or that, I'd definitely take the "that"!

I don't know. Here is nearly the same view as my photo, but as finished.

Seems to block part of the Stadium East garage when viewed from the third base side of the park.

Yeah, if that rendering is to scale then it looks like you'll be able to see the top of the old courthouse.

Which, in case you didn't know, is where the Dred Scott case was settled, ruling that African-Americans were not citizens and that slavery had no bounds.

Was it settled there? As far as I know the decision there was to grant them their freedom, but following an appeal to the MO Supreme Court, the decision was overturned. I don't know where the Supreme Court met though.

Case was settled in Supreme Court, Dred was declared "not property" in StL

All good news: Top of the old courthouse will still be visible from first base side; stadium east garage will be partially blocked from third base side; and a St. Louis jury determined correctly that human beings aren't chattel.
