I love the first pic, from the Arch grounds. It kind of gives you an idea of how a thoughtful redevelopment of the Millennium Hotel property could make a big difference in that area.Wolfpaw wrote: ↑Dec 16, 2019This area was eerily quiet because of the snow and ice once the hotel and residential open up this will wake up this part of downtown that’s mostly sleepy. ^Yeah, me too. I don't often get over to the South Lake, for some reason. Looks nice.
The lack of symmetry from the Market widening is maddening.
Scott Credit Union building permit has shown up for a retail space in the office building. Not sure which space though
This post is a bit bittersweet for me as this thread was where I believe I made my first post way back in 2014. I don't really remember though, but this post will be my last on this Forum as a contributing member. I've become too caught up in things to continually write posts, long or short, and take pictures. Even my website social media was turned over to friends. I'll only occasionally take photos but will upload them to my Flickr. My website will still be updated accordingly.
With that out of the way, time to move on to this post. I walked around Ballpark Village 2 days ago. It's really nice to see the Western End coming together.
One Life Fitness will be opening in a few weeks. Based on their Instagram page, the equipment should soon arrive. Sidewalk and roundabout work is almost completed outside of the building. I expect the sidewalks and Cardinal Way to reopen in this area a few days before One Life opens. The building came out very nice overall and the wide sidewalk will come in handy if Sports+Social plans to have outdoor seating along Cardinal Way.

The Field of Dreams Plaza area is practically completed. Block panels will cover up the white on the Loews Hotel and the Davio's Steakhouse will have an outdoor patio on the plaza. A small fence was erected there. The walkway between the buildings is also nearing completion with most of the pavers laid. A directory sign was placed here as well.

Live by Loews has finishing touches going on and will be completed in the next few weeks. the blade/fin sign is taking shape, pavers and sidewalks are being laid, and all the rooms are now furnished.

I've been told that Scott Credit Union will open in the retail space west of the office building lobby, but I cannot confirm. This will leave 2 retail spaces in the PwC Pennant Building (one to the South of the Lobby and the one at 8th and Cardinal Way).

One Cardinal Way's decorative crown should soon be erected as the forms for the elevator shaft were taken down. Leasing is currently at 52%.

Overall, since we can basically see how the development will end up, I rate it as a B-. Some things could've been improved but overall, it's a solid addition and will determine how future phases shape up. It's been a transformational project and I've been happy to have had the opportunity to watch it grow.
With this, I'll still check the forum at least once a week but I will no longer post or contribute. It's been fun but now it's time to focus on other things.

Sorry to hear that Chris. You have been one of the most solid contributors to this forum. Will you still update content on cityscene-stl.com or are you done with this line of work? *EDIT* you already answered that in the initial post, I'll follow your updates on your website.
Thanks for all the updates Chris. Especially all of the very thorough ones on this thread.
Hopefully they still consider increasing the size of the screen pictured above. It just looks ridiculous for an outdoor space of that size to have what by today’s standards is nearly a living room sized screen.

Chris thank you for all the updates I’m really going to miss your enthusiasm and all the positive energy you brought here. Wish you the best on your ventures.

As so many others have said, your voice will be missed. I understand your reasons and I wish you the best. Good luck and may you be the best you you want to be. And may CityScene remain a glorious success.

Curious if anyone knows if there is a tidbit or two worth noting in the article.

I'm guessing this giant STL is going to be a popular spot for Instagram photos.

Hotel opens in Feb 26th
216 guest rooms, including 19 suites, and will feature 17,000 square feet of meeting and event space
Office building tenants appear to be all moved in.
I would imagine, it is pretty cool looking! I also hear it was the reason for the redesign of the "STL" to give it the more rounded edges so the big sign wouldn't have sharp edges.

While a fun story, I strongly doubt any organization would completely redesign their logo and face the costs of updating all of their branding (online, in stadium, on all merchandise, etc) just so one statue would have rounded edges.

The giant Cards logo is cool. Those big social media photo ready signs with place and city names seem to be huge in other countries, but not so much yet in the US.

^ I picked up on this in 2017 when I was in a small costal town in Croatia. It had a huge letters of the town at top of a overlook and the background was the Adriatic Sea. People would pull over for photos just passing thru
It doesn't appear as though the steakhouse is going to be branded as Davio's, but rather as "Clark & Bourbon", which I gathered from both this RFT article, and the hotel's actual website...

Clark & Bourbon: "Downtown’s only classic steakhouse will feature an exposed kitchen, a variety of high-end cuts of meat, delectable sides and a mixology prep lab in the bar where chefs and mixologists work side by side. The centerpiece will be the Bourbon Room, also available for private dining, which will offer an extensive selection of bourbons, both mainstream and rare finds."

Irritating when marketing babble is dishonest and dismissive of existing business.

If anything forces me to eat at Al's, just to see what an actual classic steakhouse is like, this would be it. Yeah, the marketing material is deeply annoying.
