It's a bummer they didn't include the Bosnians on the invite list.

They still did a decent job of competing with a Cardinal game across the street and brought a decent crowd to BPV.

PostJun 17, 2014#1603

I'm seeing multiple posts on social media saying that BPV screwed up and switched the big screen to the Cardinal pre-game during the last few minutes of the US/Ghana match. One Facebook friend will not let it go and pretty much wants to burn the place down.

I will say that if the Flying Saucer is down business they are not doing a good job maximizing opportunities. Before last night's game was the 3rd or 4th time a small group of us tried to grab a bite there before the game. They have a back room that they used to open up and seat tables in but every time this year and again last night it was closed off. Meanwhile our group (and several others) were wandering around trying to jump on an open table but after 15 minutes or so we moved along (again).

I'm not sure why they aren't using that space, it would seem that its part of their rent, and already furnished so its hard to figure why its not in use....but they are definitely missing revenue chances by keeping it closed off. I can't imagine its a net loser to open the door it and staff it with an extra waitress or 2- even if its just for Cards games. Would be curious to hear management's reconciliation of that decision making. Sort of makes me wonder if Mike Matheny and his questionable strategy is in charge here!

finally made it to BPV last night (no cards game) and it was PACKED, went for a birthday at the piano bar and took a stroll around inside and outside and every place was packed...PBR had like a 50 person line to get it. Based on what i saw i think the cardinals would be stupid NOT to move on apartment building ASAP... The crowd wasn't just West County Bro's...there was older people, younger people...people my age (28) to 35, black, white, Asian..this thing may just work out.

I was hearing rumblings about a tower right after it opened, but it seemed to die down. DeWitt would be stupid not to build future phases off of this momentum. A hotel and apartment tower would be highly successful. I actually think they should scale down on office and scale up on apartments.

^ I agree... I'd take at least one of the three pads tentatively reserved for office in the Dewitt version and go with residential. But having one or two prime high-visibility spots reserved for future office is something I can wait on if the residential/hotel move forward relatively soon.

Per BPV's facebook page, there will be a country music series will featuring 14 national/regional acts this Winter on the FOX Sports Midwest Live! stage.

Glad to see they are proactive about keeping the place relevant in the offseason.

^ I'm of the opinion that Ballpark Live won't become relevant during the off season until they plant a couple residential, residential/hotel towers on each side no matter how many things they plan.

I certainly agree that residential/hotel would go a long way stabilizing the foot traffic in the area by giving it a built-in population after-hours, but honestly I could see this country music series being very successful.

To walk from downtown to the closest stadium entrances, you have to walk across the Ballpark Village parking lot. So why did they encircle the lot with a strip of mud? And then I think they covered the mud with manure or something. If the idea is to get us to walk all the way around the parking lot, it won't work. Are they planning on growing something in the mud? I predict those thorned anti-personell bushes will end up there eventually.

^ A billionaire and no Cordish.... this just might get done! I believe the Penguins are also planning to build a mixed-use Hockey Town next door on the cleared site where the old arena was.

Well first Detroit has to kick in about $280 million, but y'know they're flush with cash so no big deal. And I don't really see any guarantee that they'll have to build out the accompanying project. So...

^ If it gets built out as planned it looks like the TIF would be well worth it for Detroit... comparing back to Saint Louis, we have these types of huge TIFs as well yet it is taking so damn slow for them to move forward; if the Ilitches do indeed get their vision done on a fast time frame that will be pretty impressive.

Looks like Cleveland is poised for some nice ballpark area action as a local developer was able to get ownership of a key surface lot next to the House of James and Indians that had been owned by a California parking lot operator.

Along with demo of an aging garage, the plan is for apartments, street level retail, structured parking and possibly some office.... it basically would be the equivalent of filling up the BPV parking lot and heal up the only surface wound between the Arena and the downtown core. Also, more mixed-use development is coming to the North Shore of Pittsburgh b/w the Steelers and Pirates stadia. Hopefully we'll hear something on Phase II soon or we'll be in last place.

The nice thing for Cleveland—and granted, their park is 20ish years old now—is that it's a local developer buying the land.

I mean, yes, the Cardinals are local, but Cordish isn't, and the Cardinals primary business isn't development, so they're not motivated to rush things. (That's not all bad, but it certainly can be.)

End of the world. Suburbanites are generally very unaware of their surroundings. And BPV is full of suburbanites.
