Which is why I asked what is the $ cutoff for when it’s acceptable to take donations from bad people? Apparently it’s somewhere between $5K and $111K, which is ideologically convenient.

How about the $600k fundraiser that Clark held out at Clayco's offices in North County? Where the average attendee donated $3,000?

Gotta do some mental gymnastics to equate a billionaire who intentionally created bad news for the city for political gain to some dude that the average person has never heard of.
Mental gymnastics is an apt description of this conversation for sure. Both sides have accepted numerous donations from MAGA affiliated or otherwise seedy characters. If it’s “disqualifying” for Spencer as JJG put it, I ask that we call it both ways.
The MAGA money isn’t disqualifying. I said it’s fair game.

The Bob Clark hit money is disqualifying

Andrew Jones SLBJ interview:

-Says he would keep the Rams money in an interest account and only take off from the interest gained.

-Says he would expand on the 2030 Jobs Plan by working closer with other regional leaders.

-Says the earnings tax is "the lifeblood" of the city and that he wouldn't remove it until there's revenue to replace it.

-Says he would want a way to "claw back" mispent money from the North City grant program.

-Says he thinks Neal Richardson, the CEO of SLDC, is doing a "fantastic job" and that he would keep him on to evaluate his performance.

-Supports state control of the police.

-Says he would not seek a city-county merger, said the county had issues that he doesn't want the city dealing with.

-Says the Green Line is a "phenomenonal" idea, but that the city has more pressing issues.

-Opposes tax dollars going towards Busch Stadium or the Dome.
Amazing to hear some specific ideas and positions. At the transportation infrastructure forum all he said over and over was crime and economic development with no specifics.

There is opportunity for Jones with Butler out of the race. Tough though if 53% say they won’t vote for you during an open primary.

It’s really tough to tell what’s going on under the hood with these because of approval voting in the primary.  We know Spencer already has some A Jones votes baked in and jones from butler.  The electorate for April will also be different

Jones will be going to April down 2 runs going into the bottom of the 9th inning.

I did not bother to follow all of the links, but this is definitely not the experience I have as a city resident.  I am not sure how much truth there is here, but I am sure this will influence many who don't want to think for themselves.

It's been going around STL Twitter too. Your typical suspects posting it as if it's the Bible.

I got five Friday; four mayoral and one aldermanic: Two from Jones, two from Spencer, and one from . . . someone else. Shane Cohen's opponent? Can't even recall her name without digging it out of the recycles. (And yes, one of the Spencer mailers was the picture of the private dumpster complaining about city trash service. The second one was also a dumpster, and was pretty much the same thing but with an actual Bright-Side/Schoeml dumpster this time. So maybe just a correction? The Jones two were more different: one pro Jones, one anti Spencer.)

For our dear friend who is constantly strutting around this thread demanding numbers to back up anecdotal (if widespread) reports of poor delivery of essential city services, Austin Huguelet had this to report is today's Post-Dispatch:

Ebsy how about you be a dear and explain what exactly Cara Spencer is gonna do to make [whatever you're b*tching] about better?

Can you do that? Or no? Because no one has done that yet, including Cara Spencer.

She has sections on the platform section of her website addressing what she would do to improve each of these essential city services. The proposed policy changes and initiatives there are much more concrete that the platform section of Jones' website. Whether Spencer's proposals will work  and change things for the better is unknowable but in my opinion Spencer executing her plan is more likely to change things for the better than Jones continuing her lackluster efforts for another 4 years.

Regarding the status of the roads (which I acknowledge are abysmal) I wonder how much of it has to do with Spire’s utility work? Feels like they have been ripping up the road all over the city the last 6 months - they certainly have in my neck of the woods.

There are lanes on FPP and Lindell (and many other places) that are in unacceptable condition. If drivers have to swerve into the oncoming traffic lane or the shoulder, it creates a very dangerous situation for everyone.

Agree with Auggie that I have not heard how Spencer would fix roads or trash.

PostMar 03, 2025#971

By unacceptable I mean that are lanes on FPP and Lindell that should be closed to traffic.

To reiterate what Ebsy said above, Spencer does lay out what she wants to do for fixing roads, trash and other services on her website. Tishaura really doesn’t.

No she doesn't. I will be going over her entire campaign website later tonight (after work). The section on city services comes down to paying workers more (with what money?) and contracting the jobs out (again, with what money?).

A reoccurring issue with Spencer's campaign is the need for significantly more revenue than the city actually has to fulfill her promises.

And we all know privatization has pretty much always worked to perfection (as seen by Spencer's own campaign mailer that features a private dumpster).

Spencer's plan may work if money grew on trees.

This isn’t an accurate recap as to what’s laid out on her website. I think you’ll see that once you “go over her entire website.”

I don’t know if what’s she’s proposing will work, but she has a few different ideas for a different approach and/or more efficient way to deliver city services.

In terms of funding, she seems to be pretty honest. In some instances she clarifies that we already have the budget, in other instances she acknowledges we need to find the funding, and in other instances she proposes ways to streamline costs.
