Whatever it is, I just want this thing to be fire, popping and awesome - setting a new precedence for skyscraper design in St. Louis.

Evolution Tower, Moscow, 54-stories

The Tower at PNC Plaza, Pittburgh, 33-stories (background)

2929 Weslayan, Houston, 40-stories (A Doppelganger to **Chicago's Aqua**)

This will be the tallest building in Clayton and stand at more than 400 feet. I think that Clayton will have a 500 foot building by 2024. Very impressive for a small suburban municipality nobody has ever heard of.

Post-Dispatch has the story with renderings.... not sure if I like the base floors but overall not bad.

I think what you are seeing is a single story of ground floor retail, which is nice enough for what it is, followed by 4-5 stories of ugly parking garage. Above that it looks nice enough though not spectacular.

If they spice up the garage similar to the way Centene did theirs, it might not be so bad. Perhaps a video marquee and stuff like what was proposed for the Park Pacific garage on RallySTL could help, too. Nevertheless, it's not bad looking and it will redefine the Clayton skyline. Mid-County is quickly becoming its very own big city.

All of Mid-County's municipalities combined are 53 sq. mi. with a population of 182,000 residents and a population density of about 3,433 residents/sq. mi. With Clayton, it has a skyline to boast.

To compare, this is Tacoma, WA:

Area: 62.34 sq miles (161.5 km²)
Population: 202,010 (2012)

A 33 story tower is icing on the cake. How long has it been since we got a building of this height or greater? The Eagleton Courthouse in 2000? Mid-County, if it were on some island somewhere, would be a real city of its own. Just without any sports teams.

How crazy would it be if next year we have cranes up in downtown, Grand Center, CWE and Clayton? Could happen!

EDIT: Nevermind. I see it has actually been confirmed that this is NOT the tower that was alluded to earlier. So there's still big news to come.

Where did you hear that?

So we get the Lindell proposal a week ago, Drury yesterday, Montgomery today, and there's still another one soon to come?

The design is likable to me. It's not mind blowing bold but its not mind blowing ugly! This will be a great addition to Clayton and i know how much we want a new high-rise downtown all the patience will pay off and soon there probably be BPV proposal and the drury proposal probably within a year or so... Would you all call this sort of a building boom here in St.Louis ?

^^ From a tweet. But let's remember that there's a good chance that one or more of these projects will never be built. And as for the mystery project, perhaps it isn't even new construction; in fact, I'd much prefer it is a renovation of the Jefferson Arms, Beaumont Building or Railway Exchange over a tower.

Regarding high-rise, I think we should be happy with any development we can get, especially when you are talking about 30+ stories. I know that there are things we would like to see, but we all knew that this project was a possibility, going back to 2006. I like this project. Would I prefer it be Downtown, sure, but I'll take it!

I wouldn't be too discouraged about a 33 story tower going up in Clayton, because I doubt that will be the last proposal of that size we will see in the next few years. Laclede's Landing has a 30 story tower proposal too.

To be fair Bellevue WA is Seattle version of Clayton

So is the giant surface lot immediately north of this site going to remain? Too bad the tower can't be built on that.

I suspect that bland architecture in STL is more the fault of the clients than the architects.

I like it. I think the glass and height alone will further modernize the skyline - especially if The Crossing goes up too.

It isn't the same ol' traditional (brick-accented) designs that have gone up in Clayton in recent years.

It appears to be rectangular - which is a departure from the boxy square buildings in downtown Clayton.

I like the soaring triangulated base accent design - which is also a departure from your typical base entrances.

I'd still like to see other renderings demonstrating different angles and vantage points.

Also, who has the ability to superimpose the newly-proposed buildings on the Clayton skyline?

The giant parking lot covers the southern portion of this block. It is my understanding, from the render, that the building will roughly cover the entire western 50% of this block bound by Forsyth to the north, central to the west, Bemiston to the east and Carondelet to the south.

PostMay 14, 2014#99

All of this would be lost.

Looking south from Forsyth

Looking east from central

And hopefully So too would this parking to on the left. Looking north from Carondelet

Thank God they didn't.

Locals are great, but an infusion of outside designers, I think, mixes up things a bit.
