That CITY pink "Processional Stairway" is just screaming out for a parallel water slide. And what better way to squeeze some community recreational benefit out of all that stormwater detention vault infrastructure?
I can't wait to get my ST. LOUIS CITY PARKING CLUB team scarf!

From a messaging standpoint, I always wonder why companies don't run with their best-case scenario. I think people understand businesses aren't full proof and need to change direction/timing - being honest/open is a better message, imo. So why not say, here's Phase 1, its not either of our best case scenario, but we hope to get to Phase 2 in 5-10 years if things go well... if they don't as planned, it may take us 10+ years to get there. But creating soft spots in your brand before you launch... seems more risky than being honest about a parking garage that may or may not have retail or apartments in the next 5-30 years?
If you are willing to spend $10M extra to build a parking garage for the possibility of expansion, then hedge your bets on succeeding... maybe?

This garage designed by Snow Kreilich is probably a pretty good example of what to expect at Olive/20th, particularly in terms of the screen. At least the renderings and descriptions look and sound very similar:

"To address Metro Transit’s safety, sustainable and aesthetic concerns, we utilized a perforated, recycled aluminum cladding panel that could perform a dual role of screening the concrete structure and allowing for transparency and views both into and out of the ramp. The perforated aluminum skin also provides a dynamic, changing façade through the play of light and shadow across its surface."

That’s a lot of words for “we put lipstick on a pig.”urbanitas wrote:This garage designed by Snow Kreilich is probably a pretty good example of what to expect at Olive/20th, particularly in terms of the screen. At least the renderings and descriptions look and sound very similar:

^It's pretty much what I expected, but for the height. I don't understand going through all of the trouble and expense of buying, demolishing, and consolidating a whole block of properties, just to put up 4 levels of parking. It's even more confounding after their repeated promises to redevelop the area adjacent to the soccer stadium as an entertainment district, and considering that there are also at least two large potential adjacent non-game day users of this garage in Anthem and the SLMPD.
I agree. And really sad and pathetic that the the heart of DT West is getting a garage similar to a suburban Minneapolis park-n-ride.urbanitas wrote: ↑Jul 21, 2021This garage designed by Snow Kreilich is probably a pretty good example of what to expect at Olive/20th, particularly in terms of the screen. Here's what it look like in real life:

^ Don’t forget, ours will have a stair that promotes transit use and walkabllity!
/s…obviously I agree with you lol.

This might be melodramatic… but almost equally disappointing as the garage itself has been CITYs lack of response to the community. Completely ignoring original efforts to prevent demolition and now the garage design.
No comment on why. No commitment to further design considerations. Completely ignoring a community plan adopted a year ago.
My fandom is receding quickly.

^ Has anyone on here personally Tweeted/FB Messaged/DM'd/emailed them about the demo and subsequent garage?

Yes. I don't have a list, but I've seen lots of people reply to their social media about it. As I posted in this thread back in October of 2020, "many many many people have tagged them in tweets on the subject. It's not as if they're just waiting for someone to directly send them a question to respond."EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Jul 22, 2021^ Has anyone on here personally Tweeted/FB Messaged/DM'd/emailed them about the demo and subsequent garage?
Someone needs to figure out how to turn parking into a professional team sport, because St. Louis would so dominate.
^^ Gotcha. Well, that sucks. Maybe it'll take someone asking them on camera at some kind of presser for them to actually say something. I can't imagine it will be a satisfactory answer, but at least it'd be something...
Extremely unlikely that anyone in the ownership group would ever allow themselves to be put in that situation, or that at any local media personality would dare ask the question even if they had the opportunity...EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Jul 22, 2021^^ Gotcha. They gave a statement to KMOX last September.
While we are still working through the long-term future use of this space, we are exploring the opportunity to create a mixed-use parking structure with commercial space on the first floor that from an architectural perspective, will compliment other buildings being developed as part of the St. Louis CITY stadium district."
"As construction on the new soccer stadium and surrounding area continues, we believe the stadium district will have a positive impact on Downtown West and the entire region," the CITY spokesperson wrote. "We look forward to providing more updates around this block, and on the full stadium district, as we progress."

^I believe they also said something about seeking tax assistance for said "mixed-use parking structure"...

$19.7M building permit application submitted for a parking garage at 1900 Olive.
^ Praise be. I can't wait to pregame on that balcony before a match.
What they’re doing to the building in 1900 Olive is not acceptable!! We can’t let this building come down for another unnecessary parking lot that doesn’t generate revenue for the city and schools.
I might have to rethink my support to this team!!
I don’t really like soccer but was willing to support the team but now I have my doubts.

The 1900 block of Olive was cleared months ago. Nothing but a surface parking lot now.
Very sad! I just read it on Twitter and signed the petition they had. I think it was or is on NextSTL page!sc4mayor wrote:The 1900 block of Olive was cleared months ago. Nothing but a surface parking lot now.

Thanks Chris on the stadium and 1900 Olive pics
Considering all things at this point should 1900 Olive moved to a different location, say downtown.

St. Louis will put up a parking garage faster than anything else.
