They couldn't have advertised well. I didn't even know it was going on until it was over.gary kreie wrote: ↑Jun 18, 2025Did they advertise? I don’t know it was set until I saw it on TV.

Here's an AI overview of the attendance, FWIW:
- Attendance: Estimates suggest a crowd of 42,000+ attended the race.
- Previous Year: The 2025 race exceeded the attendance for the race in 2019, when the series returned to Gateway after a hiatus.
- Turn 1 and 2 Grandstands: For the first time since 2017, the grandstands between Turns 1 and 2 were open, accommodating a significant number of additional spectators.
That was my same thought. Outside of the signage along Route 203 I never heard a radio ad, saw a TV ad or anything on social media.

So this is either a lie or woefully ignorant.Black02AltimaSE wrote: ↑Jun 16, 2025Disappointed that the stands were so empty. The tickets were relatively inexpensive, so I'm not sure why they didn't sell better.
Pasted below is the link in YouTube for the full race highlights. The main grandstand was more or less full. I agree with other expressing the sentiment that the race was lightly advertised.
It doesn’t appear that the turn 1 & 2 stands were open.
There were likely 30-40K in attendance
Apparently, as part of last week's IndyCar festivities, Colton Herta's team was caught up in the very American and very STL experience of gunfire. I've seen this reported nowhere locally.
FWIW - Fryer is a very fair reporter and this tweet was in reaction to vocal NASCAR tweeps complaining about a race in Mexico City.
I'll also add that I thought the race was advertised quite heavily. As we all know, social media ads are highly targeted so if you aren't part of the racing demo, you'd never see them. I was served ads constantly for weeks headed into the race.
It's just IndyCar. 40+K for *any* race beyond the Indy 500 is a large crowd.

I could see the targeted thing. I'm not too into racing, but I've been to a few races; CART races and two of Nascar races one before they left and one after they returned.soulardx wrote: ↑Jun 19, 2025Apparently, as part of last week's IndyCar festivities, Colton Herta's team was caught up in the very American and very STL experience of gunfire. I’m kinda surprised I didn’t get the targeted ads. I’m in the demographic and spend money on car races at least once a year.
I’d like to hear more about the Herta story. I’m skeptical he was “dodging” gun fire

I heard a rumor that a new racing facility to replace the existing oval is in the works. Anyone else heard this?
