Visited out American Heritage on Olive. For my eye, their current batch of dye-sub print flags are real dark compared what you see flying around town and the one I bought four years ago.

Anyone know of other brick and mortar retailers I can check out?

thanks!

okay, I've answered my own question:

Fun, Flags and More
12239 Manchester Road St (just east of Ballas/St. Paul's Lutheran)
(314) 966-4410

Barry is the owner— funny, pleasant guy. The flags are sewn nylon, not digitally printed. The color's correct.
They're made up near Westport.

They look great with the sunlight shining through them.

If you need 'em, he's got 'em

Hopefully you stopped in at the Village Bar next door for a burger while you were there.

Wow, is that joint still there? Do they still have the red & white stripes out front?

Of course! I don't know when was the last time you were there, but I'd venture to say that it hasn't changed one bit.

I bet it's been 15+ years.

I thought I'd bump this as I keep putting off getting one and after this week feel the need to fly the flag. I figured I might not b the only one.

Total bust. I went to Mama Figlia today and learned this is its last day of operation, and it's being turned into a wine bar. She wanted to hang onto the flag in the window. She told me to try Baldwin/Priesmeyer 314-535-2800 http://www.baldwinflags.com where she bought hers from.

not a shocker, but still sad. it was a cute place, and i enjoyed my interactions with the proprietor. i hope she gives it another go, but she needs to either expand her selection of goods or narrow her focus. it was always very sparse in there.

Living a block down the street, it is safe to assume I walked past that place at least 200 times in the 2(?) years it has been open. I am not exaggerating when I say I never, literally never, saw a single person in that store.

An Urbanophile article recently profiled Chicago's use of its flag as "civic iconography done right."

It made me think about the use of the St. Louis flag by non-governmental groups. I feel like I see the St. Louis flag more often on houses, in front of businesses, etc., than I did a few years ago. A sign of increased local pride? Or have the flags been common for a while, and I've only lately noticed them?

Finally bought a city flag. I got it at The Flag Loft at 1900 Delmar. A 3'x5' nylon flag is $41.25. They'll print or sew any flag you want. Their production facility is on-site. http://www.flagloft.com/

^We really do have the coolest U. S. flag. No real contest. :) And I don't think I've ever seen anywhere else where people had the local flag as a tattoo, for instance. But here? Hey, that's almost normal. Grow a beard, buy a sports car, get a St. Louis flag tattoo. (Okay, I know a couple of folks. Not really droves of people. And I've lived here . . . well . . . almost as long as anywhere else. Longer than most places, anyway.)

^ I do know quite a few STLers with city flag tattoos. And it is the best flag...for many reasons. Though Chicago’s is right up there. Denver’s is pretty good too.

I took some time from my busy sheltering schedule to take a crude stab at a new flag for the state of Missouri.

The current flag base consists of 1/3 red white and blue areas to recognize our French heritage.  The shape of our state is essentially a right rhombus.  So I replaced the seal with a right rhombus shape and then divided it diagonally with yellow in the upper left to represent prairie and farming, and green in the lower right to represent the Ozarks.

The Missouri River crosses the state and roughly forms a flattened letter M.  We could make it a wavy M.  But I think as a flattened M it represents the low hills of Missouri as well as the river and the first letter of our state.  I like how the yellow and green almost look like sunshine from the Northwest and a shadow.

So Thrilllist.com ranks Missouri's flag 37th out of 50.  When I visit Colorado, I'm surprised by how many folks are displaying the Colorado state flag -- not just on flagpoles, but on T-shirts, cups, totes, etc.  Maybe we need a state flag as attractive as our city flag.  https://www.thrillist.com/gear/all-50-us-state-flags-ranked
