^There's something about it that feels like a high school kid drew it up in Photoshop. I entirely agree with you that it could be salvaged, but . . . should it? What you suggest would do a lot to salvage it, but I'm still not sold on keeping the plow. I feel there's got to be a better way to tell the story. Just because the seal has a plow doesn't mean the flag needs to. The city's seal still has a steamboat. I'm pretty glad the flag doesn't. I think starting over would be the better part of valour.
I don't love the plow but it's kind of original/unique so I'd preserve it if I were to redesign the flag. If I only kept the things I love, all flags would look the same

^It's not so much how I feel about it, it's more what it brings to the story. The seal has some history to it. Leave it there. But a flag doesn't need to match a seal. The US flag is entirely distinct from the seal. The same is true of the St. Louis flag and seal, the Union Jack and UK Royal Coat of Arms have quite distinct histories and nothing in common visually. So if we're going to propose replacing the county flag I think it should be something that is a good flag and tells the story of St. Louis County in a creative and interesting way. None of the elements in the St. Louis flag are particularly special or unique, but put together they tell a story to which we can all instantly and easily relate. We're a rive city. We have a river flag. What story does St. Louis County want to tell? That it's the farm country outside St. Louis? That seems . . . off somehow. It was true once, but that was rather a while ago now.
Anyway, it's not all that important. St. Louis County has no real need for a flag. They could just merge with the city and use ours. That would be fine.

The squiggle across the state is the Missouri River and if forms an M. It's gold for the color of the water and one of Mizzou's colors. I made the whole state green for our forests compared to the grasslands of the rest of the plains states. The blue line on the right is the Mississippi River. The Blue on the bottom of the state is the Gulf where the Mississippi flows, and is intended to make the state stand out from the background somewhat. The far background is the flag of France, just like the old Missouri flag.

Nice design! I really like how the blue on the right and bottom give the state a 3D appearance.
If I may offer my two cents, I think we should retain the same color scheme of the background, so the blue at the bottom would need to be darker. But then that might throw off the Mississippi and Gulf colors. But overall, much improved from what we currently have!

Thanks. I like your suggestion. I got rid of the 3D Mississippi River idea, and went with the Navy blue like the old flag. How's this?Miss Shell wrote: ↑Dec 29, 2025Nice design! I really like how the blue on the right and bottom give the state a 3D appearance.

I asked Gemini AI to think up a flag for Missouri. (I had just asked it to make picture of a dogwood blossom, so I guess it took that as a hint of what I might want. I also Asked Copilot AI to make a new Missouri flag from scratch. And then a more minimalist revision referencing our rivers. It likes the bear, I guess. Here are the 3 flags.
