Next door, construction on the Days Inn at Washington and Tucker will begin in January. The project will be called the Washington Avenue Apartments.

Well, I'm glad the developers didn't lose any sleep when it came time to give the new development a name. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this place. It's been an eyesore for far too long.

You have to give them a little credit; they could have just called the development "The Apartments." :)

Could be worse - "Gateway apartments on Washington" or "Rennaisance apartments on Washington" :)

I think we're all a little too hung up on names.

No doubt about that. I think Washington Ave. Apartments is plane enough to work fine, and it's not a stupid suburban type name.

And I think some of us were just kidding. If they clean up that dump, I really couldn't care less about the name.

Ditto that! I consider the Days Inn rehab the long pole in the tent for success at this very important intersection.

Yeah, I can hear that real estate lady's voice on channel three already.

"These luxurious Villas accentuate everything St. Charles county has to offer and are filled with amenities for the discriminating buyer. Give Wanda a call with Blahblah realty now. Hurry, these exclusive homesites are going fast. Oh wait a minute... this is different... it's in the city!?"

How's this for a name: The Apartments, formerly known as Day's Inn

Oh wait, I think Prince already did something like that.

Better yet, how's this? An empty lot formery occupied by an ugly building named the Day's Inn?

I imagine this building was fairly interesting when it was first built -- time has not been kind. And it could never top the building it replaced.

It appears they are mocking-up new windows. Given the limitations of its hotel construction I can't imagine how they will heat and cool the apartments without the through-the-wall units which (thankfully) appear to be going away. Looks interesting enough, but they must be dropping the ceilings because they have lowered the top of the glass. If they need to drop the ceiling they should only do it AWAY from the exterior windows to take as much advantage of the opening for glass as possible.

I took that picture from my car window this morning while waiting in the left turn lane. The guy behind me was not happy to wait an extra half-second.

i don't know if this was the orginal building, but that site was a rail terminal. the elevated rail tracks that are to be a bike path soon terminated right under that building, or at least where the building is.

They've replaced the curtain wall on one of the 2nd floor, west-facing units with an all-black, strange curio-box window design.

I assume this is a prototype of the new skin. If the plan is to simply replicate this across every unit, the effect will be to make it look like a very dated 1980 building, rather than a very dated 1960 building. Anything's an improvement, though, and I expect to be surprised how well a few simple changes might add up.

Yah, I'm an idiot. Read the thread too fast when making sure it hadn't been mentioned.

The RSS feeds are too short for the traffic this site gets, I end up missing random things.

I second that! I'm in the same boat... but the RSS is just so convenient.

I've never used the RSS feeds because I have read every post ever made on this forum, right now about 28,000 including those that have been deleted. Always wondered how much you get to see.

They've replaced that "test" facade unit again. Maybe if they can't decide they'll just go for a calico look and use different styles for each unit.
