August finished with 7 homicides vs 17 last year, awesome turn of trend as we'd been just narrowly trending under last year, which is still great considering we're in our 6th consecutive YOY drop. But, this gives us a 6-7% drop in total yearly drop for the full year. Let's hope we get a few more of those runs before the end of the year.

Whenever these demons whine about crime or whatever, remember they are quite literally fighting to remove federal requirements on gun registrations, which will make it easier to possess and traffick illegal guns.

These people deserve what they advocate for, experience the effects of their choices. Then we can start treating them like theyre real again.

^I was going to mention something similar - 2026 homicides on track for a +15% drop vs 2025, fingers crossed everything holds through the EOY - amazing to see total crime continue to drop as well.

The single best thing Jones did was hire Robert Tracy to be police chief and it's not particularly close.

If the current trend holds, reaching 112 homicides would be amazing as the headlines would be able to say lowest number of murders in 23 years

Federal government has selected St. Louis as one of four cities to receive share of $300M for Model Cities Initiative (MCI) to do four things.
  • Hiring and retaining sworn and non-sworn law enforcement personnel.
  • Adopting modern technologies such as real-time crime centers, drones, artificial intelligence, body-worn cameras, and license plate readers.
  • Proactive, deterrence-focused policing and high-crime area patrols.
  • Mental health, substance use, and crisis response services linked to public safety

The success/usefulness of this program will depend on who is dictating where the money goes and what it is used for. Hopefully the PD will be the one choosing what to use it for and not the DOJ.

The city's proposal calls for hiring additional officers, offering recruitment incentives and supporting competitive compensation and officer wellness. Funding also would pay for improvements to the Police Academy, including security upgrades, interior repairs and new training technology.

The department plans to use the money to renovate and upgrade its Real-Time Crime Center, replace aging surveillance cameras and license plate readers, install additional cameras and replace a radio communications tower. Other proposed purchases include emergency response drones, police vehicles and ballistic shields for every patrol car.

The proposal also includes a citizen reporting portal and a law enforcement-led homeless outreach program. The department plans to add social workers and victim advocates and support community organizations providing crisis intervention, treatment and housing assistance.

The initiative also would support partnerships with organizations such as the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, whose Public Safety Division focuses on gun violence, reckless driving, the opioid crisis and areas with limited access to resources.
