Terminal 1 MetroLink is closed for two months for maintenance. Announced just days before closure. Still shows open on Google Maps. No shuttle improvements to compensate for the gap.

Just unacceptable infrastructure management on the part of the Airport and Bi-State.

Should’ve been announced min. 30 days in advance.
Should increase shuttle frequency to compensate.
Google Maps should show closed.

And they just sort of throw passengers into the fire without any real additional wayfinding or other signage (as best I could tell today). And as you mentioned, just sort of hoping they find that shuttle and make their connection on time. And I was using the live shuttle tracker yesterday and for 20 minutes no shuttle (I only saw one) had reached the East terminal at all. The airport connection of Metro is basically useless for T1.

Supposedly they're going with 40ish gates.

^That's a pretty underwhelming looking design, though to be fair, I don't think I've ever seen an airport with so few pictures of it online. What's there now looks . . . okay? Pretty ordinary, and quite small for a city that size.

September International (Customs)
Lufthansa Frankfurt 90.86%
British London 89.73%
AC Montreal 82.51%

It is late so I didn't feel like figuring out the rest but I figure these are the 3 with the most interest.

^That would have to be very disappointing.
One note to that one is its still really early stages, They don't plan to even finish the head house until 2032, terminals will be later, so its very preliminary.

Another note to make is people better be pulling for Schmitt to get this modern skies bill passed or that might look good compared to what we get. I haven't seen any new renderings but from what I have heard behind the scenes, if the airlines hold firm on their price it is going to be very scaled back from what at least I was expecting, unless a pot of money shows up from somewhere else.

That does make a difference. And to be fair, I'd call the new KCI pretty meh too, but by all accounts it is at least functional, and while I don't think it's as visually distinctive, it's doubtless a much more comfortable place to wait for a plane than what was there before. (Though I take DFW as a half dozen different examples of what they could have done to incorporate what was already there if they'd been a bit creative.)

But I'm the weird child who actually likes what we have now, so feel free to ignore me.

^^

https://www.firstalert4.com/2026/10/09/schmitt-modern-skies-act-tailor-made-move-lambert-forward/
First Alert 4 has been asking for a year about initial renderings for the $4 billion single airport terminal project. The station has been told the hold up is money, with the project possibly getting scaled back.

Southwest Airlines makes more than 50% of the flights in and out of Lambert and is currently on the hook for the largest portion of the cost for the project.

Schmitt has secured federal money for Lambert and is the lead sponsor of the Modern Skies Act. Schmitt said the Modern Skies Act is tailor made for Lambert.

Schmitt was asked if Modern Skies is a solution to make sure the project is a world-class facility in 2031 or 2032.

“It would certainly be a big part of that equation, and why I’m operating with a real sense of urgency as it relates to this,” Schmitt said.

Either two things are going to happen:
  1. We get a greatly scaled back warehouse style Lambert 2.0 that is underwhelming.
  2. The whole thing collapses and we're stuck with the current setup for another 20 or 30 years.
We're not going to get anything decent or even slightly impressive. Travelers will be disappointed and us locals will continue to suffer with crap.

Reading this at work with firewalls that block X, I feared this was in regards to STL.  I had to run to my phone and see this link is Cleveland.  I really hope we can keep our new terminal as close to 60 gates as possible.  Without a great design, I wonder if an overhaul and redistribution of gates would serve us better.  Note, I WANT a new design and a better functioning sizable terminal.

I’d say 2 things happens

1. Moderns skies fails and we get a very scaled back terminal that may need to keep some current concourses online to fit everyone.

2. Modern skies passes and we get the terminal we all hoped.

The Modern Skies Act looks to come into session sometime after the midterms in the lame duck sessions. It has a lot of government and industry support. I have reason to be confident in its passage. Then again, if we're waiting for passage of this Act to get the full redevelopment, then we should be patient in our expectations for when the airport announces on the terminal's redevelopment. So, hurry up and wait some more.

Still curious to what Southwest Airlines is looking to announce. I believe we are to hear more later today about increased flights and new routes for STL becoming more of a north-south transition airport. Maybe more? Fingers crossed...

I dont think much is going to come out tomorrow. It is just a media event where they get media together and try to get some good press. The only rumor I put much stock in is updated updated rapid rewards stuff or the new chase card for their lounges.

New timeline video explaining the plan.

Of course they will get a consolidated rental facility: but that's too much to ask for here. We can't handle that in St. Louis.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've only flown there twice and both times didn't rent.

But like I said: St. Louis doesn't deserve a consolidated rental facility.

Just going to reiterate the vibe on much of this thread - if STL goes half-ass on this terminal redo, it will be beyond disappointing.

The region got beyond creative with finance options for that riverfront NFL stadium - why can't we do that here?

If you just see a new airport of any kind as a regional asset, then we will be doing pretty good.

I will note it is a decent length bus ride to off site. But they all are at least in one place.

Southwest announced changes to their rapid rewards program today. But the thing I found most interesting

 Loyalty partner redemption

Starting in Spring 2027, Members will be able to earn and redeem Rapid Rewards points for travel through international loyalty partnerships, beginning with Icelandair, China Airlines, and Etihad Airways,

So you will be able to earn and use Southwest points for Iceland flights.

Also, Starlink will be on all their planes by next fall

My biggest take away is that companion pass is essentially going away after 2027.
