All of it. Largest award to Boeing to St. Louis in it's history by a large magnitude. I doubt we've seen the complete media on this announcement yet, more tomorrow. Total jobs will be measured in the tens of thousands.

"That's awesome for the region" is by definition celebratory.

The US would justify a nuclear attack on St. Louis for our participation in arms manufacturing, our arms kill innocent people. But by all means, so long as it creates jobs.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. ... Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."

I too celebrate it!  I think itd be bad for thousands of people to lose their jobs.  And those people are not responsible for decisions made on a much larger scale and should feel no moral qualms about their work

Personally, I think this is great news for the region.  Tens of thousands of good-paying middle class jobs.  With the US spending a disproportionately high percentage of its GDP on defense, these jobs were 100% going somewhere in the U.S. So, happy that it's here.

The media coverage has been super super flimsy with every story just using AI to re-write some blurbs from the Department of War website: https://www.war.gov/News/Contracts/Cont ... g-24-2026/

I look forward to deeper reporting and hope this win gets as much local media attention as Panera moving like 45 mid-level/non exec jobs to Boston.

Didn't pick a fight with anyone lol. If you go back and read the posts on the forum, you'll see people arguing to me that actually it's okay to put more weapons in the hands of authoritarian illiberal countries because it means more jobs. Try not to project.

I hear you man. I'm sure most people on this forum would much rather Boeing be building high speed trains, subway cars, and commercial jets, but the political and social reality is that America is knee deep in the military industrial trap with no end in sight.

Boeing gets contract for F-15 fighter jets in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — The Boeing Co. won a new contract this week from the U.S. Air Force to support F-15 production in St. Louis. The contract, announced Monday, is valued at up to $131 billion and will support the F-15 Eagle Crest program, which oversees the F-15 fighter aircraft fleet.

The contract covers aircraft production, systems integration, upgrades and sustainment, including new facilities aimed at keeping F-15 aircraft mission-ready for the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard and other defense department customers. Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Poland could also see new F-15 aircraft under the contract, the defense department said.

A Boeing spokesman declined to comment on the award.

The work will be performed in the St. Louis area. It is expected to be completed by August 2037, the department said on its website. The ordering period runs through August 24, 2031, with an option to extend it through August 24, 2036. The announcement follows a big win for Boeing last year, when the company was selected to build the Air Force's next generation fighter, the F-47, to replace the F-22.

Boeing officials announced in July 2023 that the company would build an advanced manufacturing site in north St. Louis County, part of the company’s $1.8 billion expansion.

That expansion project, including a 1.1 million-square-foot facility, visible from Interstate 170, is expected to play a key part in F-47 production. In addition to the F-47, Boeing is now in competition with Northrop Grumman to build the Navy's next generation fighter jet, the F/A-XX.

A long-awaited announcement on an engineering and manufacturing development contract for that program could come before the end of the month. The new F-47 and F/A-XX aircraft won't be ready until well into the next decade, Air & Space Forces Magazine reported in March, citing comments from U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman of Virginia, the chair of the House Armed Services Committee’s tactical air and land forces subcommittee.

In Boeing's second-quarter earnings call in July, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said the defense business is seeing higher demand for missiles and munitions. In its earnings report Boeing said its Defense, Space and Security division has an $85 billion product backlog, with about a quarter of the backlog attributed to foreign customers. Boeing moved its Defense, Space and Security division to St. Louis earlier this year. The division reported a 13% jump in revenue in the most recent earnings report — to $7.5 billion from $6.6 billion in the second quarter of last year.

Reuters contributed to this story.

A great day for STL. Thousands of jobs with billions in new investments. We're about to be the center of fighter aircraft in the US. Good times.

@StlAlex Here's something for you... The F-15EX line is meant to primarily allow for the provision of new aircraft for the US Air National Guard. The purpose of the USANG is to protect the US itself, e.g., to take down aircraft attacking the US. So, with this new funding round, the main focus is on keeping the homeland safe. After all, the primary aircraft types for foreign engagement are stealth aircraft, recognizing that the F-15 isn't stealth and therefore not the tip of the spear. At most, foreign engagements with the F-15EX would be to serve as a "gun truck" for forward-deployed stealth aircraft unless we can guarantee 100% established aerial control over a warzone, a concept more in doubt in the age of surface-to-air missiles and advanced aerial defense drone aircraft. And in this day and age, we have less to fear of invading aircraft being Tu-95 Bear bombers than we do swarms of drone aircraft, meaning their mission remains very much alive and perhaps more important than it's been in decades. So, this order is primarily for US national defense instead of foreign engagements. Does this assuage some of your concern? Hope so.

I'm also hopeful for updates on the F/A-XX contract. Knock wood.

Are you volunteering to get murdered by a St. Louis made weapon for the sake of jobs? My concerns would be assuaged then. At least then youd be walking the walk for all the vomit you spew on here.

Thats not even half of the point. The greater point is that the reason, fundamentally, that our infrastructure is crumbling, lets say Florrisant Ave in North City, is because we give out $131 billion contracts to corporations. The fact so many people, even "educated" and "informed" people on niche urbanist forums are blind to it is indicative of how truly terminally sick America is.

Like, you wouldnt support ICE facilities being built in St. Louis for obvious reasons, so why do we support a far worse industry that causes far more global harm than ICE could ever imagine?

And then there's ones who are blatantly evil and probably like the idea that we build weapons that will kill innocent people and probably would talk about the job opportunities created by opening ICE facilities here.

No but the US *is* attacking other countries with arms made here in STL, countries not attacking the US much less invading the US, so using our own logic, the countries we attack are totally justified in attacking and destroying St. Louis the way we do to other cities that produce arms.

Genuinely hilarious you think I give any shits about how personally offended I make you feel while talking about the arms we produce that are used to actually murder real people. You're like "actually its good that we produce death machines for the MIC because jobs" but also "its offensive that you think I should sow what I preach."

Standard America supremacist logic. Your life is just worth more. In fact, our middle class jobs are just worth more than foreign lives.
