^ That may be all well and good, but I can't take KC serious with only one fortune 500 company.  That's pretty dismal for a major city, IMHO.  

Was hoping to get to KC for the quarterfinals but tickets have been bouncing around between $4-5,000 to get in the door.

^ Absolutely ridiculous! I get it, the WC may not be back here for a long time, but I'm not paying half a summer vacation for 3 hours of futbol in a football stadium..... & I love WC soccer.

Bosnia and Herzegovina finished its three Group A matches with four points, including a win over Qatar in Seattle on the final match day. It will now head south for its next match, which will be on Wednesday, July 1, in Los Angeles.

KC has done very well marketing itself as the "Soccer Capital of the US" as the announcers continue to repeat the narrative. Just like Nashville is the "Music City", marketing plays a big role in growth & reputation. That being said, STL has not done a good job a marketing itself, not to mention the self-destructive behavior of our suburban neighbors. Pretty much every US Soccer game chimes in at the P&L watch parties, even non-WC games. They do a great job organizing soccer watch parties at P&L. I like the set-up at P&L better than the inside of BPV.  Not to mention, there are watch parties at Energizer park that only allow so many people in. BPV has one & I'm sure other places do. I would like to see one huge watch party. Block off the Morgan Ford & do it at the Amsterdam or come up with one unified location. The parties they show on the local news look lightly attended, at least on TV.

For the US Soccer games they’ve generally shown the fan watch parties in NY, DC, Nashville, LA, SF, KC. KC’s always looks fuller and more lively which I think reflects both their actual support of US soccer but also the design of P&L as you mention.

I'm convinced KC has cultivated their entire "Soccer capital of the US" based entirely off the video feeds during watch parties at P&L. They started them years ago (I remember watching the 2010 game against Ghana inside Johnny's(?) at P&L) and once they started getting some national coverage, it became it's own thing - packing P&L for US games as much for the publicity as anything. Other than videos of wild crowd celebrations during US games and strong ratings on TV, there is nothing that speaks to KC being the soccer capital of the US. Sporting KC has finished bottom third in attendance each of the past five years (some of that is stadium size but it's declining regardless). Their youth teams get stomped by STL teams every year. 

Not entirely unlike Cardinals fans giving standing ovations to every former Cardinal - it's ok to admit a lot of it is self-serving, to nurture the "best fans in baseball" tag.

I think there is a bit more to it but that KCP&L camera feed is a big part of how it’s manifested publicly.

KC was one of the first to build a high quality dedicated MLS stadium, US Soccer’s first real high quality training center, and the first women’s soccer stadium. They were in MLS very early on and the Hunt’s played a major role in the league’s early years.

I think SKC would do better if they didn’t have a stadium in the middle of now where. There had also been significant symbiosis between Cerner and SKC (a lot of ticket and event space sharing due to common ownership). Current came in right when Sporting KC was loosing the limelight (league expansion, aging stadium, etc) and gave KC a whole new wave of “Soccer Capital” marketing propaganda.

KC has been growing as a soccer market for some time. It has been a concerted effort with SKC, Swope, Scheels, Current, etc. 
I think STL got behind (outside of youth, HS & club soccer) due to us not having an MLS team for so many years. STL has so many great facilities (Energizer, Soccer Park Creve Coeur, Lou Fusz, Carshield, etc.) but KC has the PR in it's favor right now. 

If the Rams would have stayed, I think STL would have put in a WC bid & may have won it. Let's not forget that KC has been a media darling for years thanks to the Chiefs success & the Kelce-Swift deal. While NFL may not create a financial windfall, just look at all of the cool events, positive publicity & revenue the Chiefs/Hunts have brought to KC. (Lots of NFL championship games, NFL draft, World Cup, etc.) & while a long shot, KC is now in the NHL expansion conversation.  I know TX cities are 1st in line, but KC is on the list. It is amazing to me that the Sprint Center (not sure on current name) has not been able to attract a tenant. 

STL has a better chance of getting another NFL team than KC does getting an NHL team.

If they're looking to expand, it is going to be to a up and coming city that can handle another sports team. This could include many other cities, Kansas City being one of them. 

Seeing the World Cup, KC’s prominence, other cities doing their thing positively, is this the nadir of St. Louis?

I’d like to think that St Louis has a shot at 2031 but I have a feeling the lack of an NWSL franchise will be a gating factor.

Isn't there a different thread for NBA expansion? and KC talk? We are getting off topic and this thread has basically turned into a KC feed already we don't need to get it to a KC NBA expansion thread. 

All this hoopla about KC getting a NBA or NHL team is nonsense they aren’t getting neither anytime soon… Yeah they are getting good positive feeds just like every other host city it’s great not only for KC but the state of Missouri. Missouri has two good soccer cities. St.Louis needs to recreate downtown make it unique & different right now it’s drab plain & uninspiring. I hope there’s a day when all of this is a distant memory & downtown is actually vibrant that’s something I’d love to experience on my lifetime. I remember when Burger King lions choice McDonald’s boat among other establishments anchored downtown I know it’s not saying much but still even the lack of national brands is alarming.

^Hate to say it, but St. Louis City in general lacks much in the way of retail. Hampton Village, IKEA, few other spots. Very odd that most of the retail is on the other side of the County line. A city of 275K should have more. 

The NBA talk was just  illustrating the PR bump that KC is getting right now. This WC has brought them Messi & the Argentina fan takeover, the now famous Dutch fan takeover, Messi's hat trick, and huge crowds. They still have the potential for a Messi vs. Ronaldo quarterfinal. This is the stuff of dreams for St. Louis. It all goes back to losing our NFL team & not having a WC-ready venue. I openly admit how jealous I was when the Dutch & Argentina fans took over KC. In the end, will KC make a fortune over what they spent on the event, doubtful, but this event will bring KC a PR-related bump that will far exceed any financial gains from the WC. Keep in mind, they are building a world class NFL venue in KS. Expect KC to get lots of big events down the road. All the while, we are getting horrible press as a City2 soccer match is being delayed due to rapid gunfire a few blocks away. I am not feeling good vibes this morning.

I think the fix was in since 2010 when Stan Kroenke snatched the Rams on the last day possible from Rams season ticket holder Shahid Khan.  Korenke then went silent and stopped talking to Rams fans here.  NFL Commissioner Jerry Jones wanted a team in LA and found an owner willing to put money over fan loyalty.

^ Yep, total sham that still cost us to this day. The fix was in from day one. 

Kahn has been rehabbing buildings in JAX, is building a new stadium there. The north riverfront, Landing & beyond would be a much different place if Kahn would have succeeded in getting the Rams. 

We might be talking about STL hosting that huge quarterfinal match-up right now. Just another one of the many lost opportunities.
