KC leaders announced a new royals stadium at Washington Square park, which they call downtown and this would be like building Busch stadium east of Soulard and calling it downtown

It’s just ~1,000 meters. Arch to STL City is 2200 meters and I’d call that “Greater downtown STL”.

Downtown KC is also about 2,100 meters E-W.

What generally should be considered downtown KC vs where the stadium would be

They consider riverfront to crown center as “Greater Downtown” with with a combination of component neighborhoods. You circled the CBD, a component. What’s your point here?

Everyone in their region considers it downtown though. Their legal definition of downtown includes that site. You just circled something arbitrarily and then posted it?

Is that big enough of a space to build a stadium? Specifically the width.

Using Google Maps measurement that footprint is roughly 600 feet by 950 feet. Busch Stadium is 750 by 825. Even ancient Wrigley Field is 620ish on the shorter Addison Street side.

I know what you're saying: but argue with Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_Kansas_City

Downtown Kansas City is the central business district (CBD) of Kansas City, Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area which contains 3.8% of the area's employment.[1] It is between the Missouri River in the north, to 31st Street in the south; and from the Kansas–Missouri state line eastward to Bruce R. Watkins Drive as defined by the Downtown Council of Kansas City;

I understand what they claim as their downtown but it’s absurd.  Here it is in orange vs what we call downtown

I didn't circle and post anything. And I don't care what anyone considers it lmao. Indianapolis advertises IUPUI, where I went, as "downtown" and I can assure you it absolutely is not.

DB's point is that they have a removed-from-reality definition of downtown just to be able to say things are downtown- including a single family neighborhood on par with St. Louis Hills.

Kansas City Council votes to eliminate parking minimums in the urban core. Seems like they’ve been doing quite a bit recently to encourage development.

This could also be part of downtown StL if we had a Broadway streetcar. Soulard should feel like part of downtown but interstate/blight/parking lot division make them distinct places.

Shows you how much their streetcar has done to overcome their interstate division, making that area around their Union Station part of downtown

We need a connection between Soulard & Downtown. Would change downtown’s experience for tourists and locals.

Broadway streetcar needs to be talked about more

Is this a legit proposal, or is it just city leaders pitching a potential site? Are the Royals on board with it?

This site was mentioned by John Sherman (Royals owner) once that I can remember. City has said it multiple times. The team might have a design and everything in waiting for this stuff to pass in city hall. The $600 million public incentive package, and the parks board proposal are just preliminary things that the Royals said they needed to make a decision.

I saw this on Twitter yesterday. What city doesn’t have something newer than the other city. Both Busch & Enterprise look decent..

Do you think Enterprise doesn't get used for lots of concerts and college sports? Enterprise literally has had Frozen Four and National Figure Skating Championships in back to back years.

DB's point is Enterprise also gets 41 National Hockey League games per year in addition to the concerts and college sports, which is what Kansas City wanted when they built theirs in the mid 2000s but didn't get.

He just asked what it gets used for and I provided a simple response. I made no comparison to any other arenas.

I’m just not sure this proposed site by KC for the Royals will work for the long term interests of the modern day sports franchise. This is not a good site as far as building surrounding entertainment and hospitality options that the team controls
