Nuclear is the future. Everything else is just wasting time and resources.

It’s going to take a group effort across generation methods to meet demand.

If only we could build another reactor at Callaway but on budget. Isn’t that why so few nuclear power plants are being built….because they cannot be built within budgetz.
And take forever to generate their first kWh.
Just build solar and wind continuously. Build some more Tom Sauk reservoir (375MWh) as batteries if needed. Or actually batteries, or molten sodium, or heated sand, whatever.
Close the coal plants!

Really wish the railroad companies operating on the Near East Side would consider opening some of their excess land holdings up to data centers. It'd be a great use of nonproductive existing resources, generate new jobs, and fulfill the needs for data centers, all just opposite Downtown STL. It's not like they're doing anything with all that noisy land next to the freight tracks and rail yards anyway. Get some of those sites humming with data centers like how 255/270 is a hub of logistics warehouses. Plus, you have easy access to fresh water from the Mississippi River, proximate access to emergency fuel from the Wood River refinery, and probably great opportunities to base modular nuclear reactors, all while contributing new tax revenues to East STL and both St. Clair & Madison Counties, all of which would welcome the new businesses to their tax coffers and regional economic development.

Jet engine shortages threaten AI data center expansion as wait times stretch into 2030 — the rush to power AI buildout continues
Wait times for mobile gas turbines stretch into the 2030s as hyperscalers race to buy every jet engine they can find.

No, a GW data center is way bigger than what could fit at the armory

^ It seems like the $600M proposal for the Armory parking lot would be much bigger than any existing data center in the city but far from the mega centers that are starting to pop up in other parts of the country. I wonder though how big things could get if the area were turned into a data center district, with the Armory and maybe the Goodwill buildings, and the holdings to the south that the entity already owns.

A New Unifying Issue: Just About Everyone Hates Data Centers

^ Yep, would agree while we all use our smart phones 24/7 and AI is now being considered a necessity in business. I literally have been dealing with multiple projects over multiple states on both sides of coast over multiple time zones on my laptop in Dallas this morning.
In the meantime. I'm still trying to understand the perception that the Armory in the heart of residential mid town and therefor data center development is bad yet if you put homeless shelter there the freeway, viaduct, railroad tracks & other light industrial surroundings keep it isolated enough from the mid town neighborhoods. Yes, I think there is a lot of potential starting with new lab space if someone can come in and make it work. Which goes back to what private equity & capital is willing to invest in right now.

The huge 12,000 supercomputing conference in town all week also filled up a lot of businesses up and down Wash Ave with company hang outs

Drove down there tonight. DT looks beautiful. Infrastructure improvements on Market and 7th are great. Wash Ave was packed. Every business was busy.
Ok now the bad, I watched one of the insane people that our community dumps on downtown violently accost a convention goer (I know it was a convention goer because he was wearing one of the convention lanyards). Luckily the crazy guy didn’t attack him but he ran up on him screaming as if he was about to and only stopped when he was inches from this poor guy’s face. Sucked to witness.
What really struck me though was that in the 30ish minutes that I was bopping around downtown, I didn’t see a single police officer. No one. Thousands of people out in the street and not a single cop. How tf is that possible? Where tf are they?
We have one of the most copped up cities in the country (on a per capita basis) and they are nowhere to be found in our busiest, most important neighborhood during a huge conference. How is that possible?

I think, especially on nights/weeks/weekends with lots of things going on downtown, the police should have walking-beats all evening and into the night until traffic dies down. No reason on a night like tonight there shouldn't have been a 4-5 officers walking up and down Washington.

Played a round of the home version of JetLag with a convention attendee today. I have to say, it was fun. And yes, it can be challenging even on our little system. Big stinking convention. Can't believe we landed that. They've got the entire convention center blanked out, wall to wall and basement to the rafters. They rented the City Museum yesterday and they've got private shuttles going everywhere. (In spite of which we still used Metrolink for . . . reasons. Wouldn't be jetlag without trains.) It's pretty impressive to see.
