#BREAKING The Tampa Police Department said four people are dead and many more are injured after a speeding car plowed through over a dozen people in Ybor early this morning.
And here I thought this was only a St.Louis city problem how dare Tampa take away St.Louis’s spotlight in being dangerous 🙄. Seriously I hope the state of downtown continues to improve for the better & not only downtown but the entire city.

My office moved from downtown to Earth City.  Teammates complained about having to pay to park, the 1% earnings tax.  It is depressing to hear yet another move to the county.   I am afraid if we want to see this reverse, we are going to have to address the things that impact workers money.  I have defended it for years, but I am about to give up.
Is city earnings tax an impediment or an excuse. A look around the country.

^ I’ve been thinking about this recently. I agree that it’s common enough but I do think regional context should be considered. Of the cities on that list, STL probably has the weakest leverage regionally to levy a broad tax. Geographically (63 square miles), ~10% of regions population, Downtown is not the population center of the region (closer to Clayton), and overall perception challenges.

Places like Indianapolis, Kansas City, and Columbus have sprawling annexation which captures a greater percentage of the population and commercial opportunities. There’s a greater chance a company leaving downtown will find an office park still within city limits.

The better option is St. Louis County join the City in the tax. That would level the playing field for the most part and shore up the county’s budget.

Pity Sinquefeld's amendment bars any new earnings taxes in the state. Maybe some lawyers could structure a city/county merger in such a way to get around it but its not simple.

Asking because I don’t know.

Don’t companies pay 1.5% or something also per worker? If so, is that the case in the other cities also.

I could have completely made that up but I feel like I had heard that.

There's a 0.5% payroll expense tax

https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/d ... x-info.cfm
Must have been 1.5 combined. I always thought the company part was the piece that led to them moving more than the employee part. Companies care more about their pocket than the employee pocket. But 0.5% isn’t that much.

It’s only a matter of time until Clayton starts slamming new taxes on businesses and residents. They don’t have the area and therefore the tax base to support a daytime population in excess of100,000 people. Something will have to give and will have to give soon

Four Seasons isn’t going anywhere, it’s one of the best preforming locations, they recently invest ton of money on a refresh and they’re actively working with Explore on a smoother connection to convention center and Wash Ave

Good to hear genuinely. That said, how about a smoother connection to Laclede's Landing, LKS, and the test is downtown while they're at it?

Ozzy Market is now open at 20th and Wash Ave (serving breakfast and lunch) and eventually will also get a liquor license.

How much of a convenience/grocery store is there? I love a "bodega" style store and wish we had more, especially downtown.

The Peabody news is terrible but not unexpected. The constant head in the sand stuff needs to stop. Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Pittsburgh all have multiple f500/1000 hq's in their Downtown areas, this is not the coasts or the sun belt, these are rust belt metros. We are not doing enough, both as a city but also the business community also need to bare the brunt of blame for their herd mentality. Sadly St. Louis has become a zero sum game and spread too thin and its only going to get worse when the god awful sterile Downtown Chesterfield gets going. Its all well and good saying more residential, but you need to give people reasons to live in these developments and a lack of nearby employment is a road block.

I.dont like ti be mean... but Whither... do you ever *really* bring anything "construtive" and "smart" to these boards?

Four Seaons is going nowhere. They just invested a ton of money into their tower. The hotel is very strong in sales and occupancy.

Yes, thanks for asking politely. I was told, by same friend who told me months ago Galleria parking lot looking for rez dev, that very high-end hotel going into downtown Chesterfield, one that already has a presence here.

Feels like the hotel biz is doing fairly well - maybe we're looking at a 2nd build as opposed to a "move"
