Whether we like it or not, the perception currently is beating the reality. Our local news (and Business Journal) has played a significant role in this. If we sustain this decrease in crime w/ continued investment in DT over the next 12-18 months, the tide (and perception) will turn.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 24, 2025It makes sense, the cardinals drew 3.4m fans in 2022 despite downtown crime being 30% higher than 2025

Does anybody know what leasing is looking like for the food hall vendor slots? Hopefully all eight spaces will be filled by opening day.

No it won’t.

Big downtown project news out on Monday. It’s been sent to the press but embargoed until Monday morning.
I almost prefer the surprise. Between now and then I am going to convince myself its way bigger news.

Won’t be the only big announcement next week.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 27, 2025Big downtown project news out on Monday. It’s been sent to the press but embargoed until Monday morning.

^Good lord jshank, you've joined the Chris/DB teaser club! Fingers crossed.
^^Southwest crew base (doubt this with the recent cuts)? Another TATL route? That type of 'big' announcement, jshank?
The last time you teased us was when LH upped their schedule to 5 days so I am hoping this is on that level,

Trailnet to Celebrate Bike-Bus-Walk Improvements on Tucker Boulevard
WHAT:
Trailnet will host a press conference on Sept. 30 to celebrate the major safety and mobility upgrades along Tucker Boulevard. The .94-mile project, stretching from Washington Avenue to Chouteau Avenue, introduces a suite of improvements designed to make the corridor safer and more welcoming for everyone — whether walking, biking, rolling, scooting, or driving.
WHEN:
Tuesday, Sept. 30, 10 a.m.
WHERE:
City Hall, Tucker Boulevard side. In the event of rain, we’ll be inside City Hall.
WHO:
Speakers will include Mayor Cara Spencer; Cindy Mense, CEO of Trailnet; and representatives from other organizations.
WHY:
This project is a critical part of a growing network inspired by Trailnet's Connecting St. Louis plan. Trailnet recommended the Tucker Bike-Walk-Bus project in 2017 and secured funding and in-kind services from private investors to guide the project through pre-development. Now, construction is underway!

This better not the any of the "big announcements" because this would be even more disappointing than my already low expectations.

Mayor Spencer should create a Deputy Mayor position whose job is to oversee all things downtown. Right now, there are too many cooks in the kitchen & too many kitchens, with nobody pulling everything together to move in the same direction
Other organizations have too many conflicts of interest to take on that role effectively, this is clear by talking to a lot of downtown developers. Mayor Krewson had deputy mayor position, so it’s not new

Good idea. A Downtown St Louis Inc type organization should be revived as well. In hindsight, it seems like it was a mistake to merge it with Greater STL Inc and not have a Downtown-focused civic organization.dbInSouthCity wrote:Mayor Spencer should create a Deputy Mayor position whose job is to oversee all things downtown. What did Penske and Gilbert do in Detroit that launched it back to relevance? I’d like to see some of that in STL.

Moved their companies downtown, spent lots of money on philanthropy downtown, actively worked to change the narrative on downtown.
The new Hudson's Tower complex for example includes a 232 ft office building and a 685 ft apartment/hotel. Cost $1.4 billion. The project definitely just doesn't happen without Gilbert pushing it through. They even built it without any signed tenants, because it wasn't driven by the market, it was driven by a want to redevelop downtown Detroit.
I admit, the Millenium redevelopment is a pretty similar project, though smaller.

I expect the news today is about the Mansion House redevelopment considering renderings were uploaded to STL Today yesterday afternoon. It hinted at New+Found’s $200 Million redevelopment that should be finished in 2027.
