This will show how the Mayor’s competence. “Park closed for restoration” has been done before. Hopefully more than that is done this time

The new and beautiful riverfront bike trail in front of the Arch and Landing is basically useless because the flood gates at Carr street have been closed for like five years, and now the detour to the North Riverfront Trail makes you go even further out of your way (and up a giant hill) because a fence have been inexplicably built across 1st street (and the sidewalks) in front of the former Sundeckers. 2nd street doesn't event feel like you should be riding on it because of the security booths and extremely hostile speed bumps.
They built out gates to control vehicle access on LKS and have been saying that once they are complete the flood wall would reopen. Still nothing because apparently the city and Laclede's Landing neighborhood association want to keep it closed. It's an absolute clown show here. I love STL but it's a toxic relationship, so disappointing and consistently dysfunctional.

Why does it always feel like they want nobody and nothing down there?GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025The new and beautiful riverfront bike trail in front of the Arch and Landing is basically useless because the flood gates at Carr street have been closed for like five years, and now the detour to the North Riverfront Trail makes you go even further out of your way (and up a giant hill) because a fence have been inexplicably built across 1st street (and the sidewalks) in front of the former Sundeckers. 2nd street doesn't event feel like you should be riding on it because of the security booths and extremely hostile speed bumps.

Yea, I don’t understand the gated first street to the 4 blocks of unused overflow parking. And yes, there are some parts of the bike trail with the gate blocks and some different barriers/rougher spots that make the ride less pleasant. Some parts of the area really do frustrate me.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025The new and beautiful riverfront bike trail in front of the Arch and Landing is basically useless because the flood gates at Carr street have been closed for like five years, and now the detour to the North Riverfront Trail makes you go even further out of your way (and up a giant hill) because a fence have been inexplicably built across 1st street (and the sidewalks) in front of the former Sundeckers. 2nd street doesn't event feel like you should be riding on it because of the security booths and extremely hostile speed bumps.

The landing association and developers there are cutting the area off but maybe once the final rehabs take place, they will start to look to build new residential on the empty lots/parking lots and rehab warehouses/build on lots to the north, and it will make the area more congruent. Right now they want to close themselves in the blocks from MLK bridge to Eads Bridge
Pretty sure the casino does not want anyone down there. Specifically "undesirables". That's why it feels like that.dweebe wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025Why does it always feel like they want nobody and nothing down there?GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025The new and beautiful riverfront bike trail in front of the Arch and Landing is basically useless because the flood gates at Carr street have been closed for like five years, and now the detour to the North Riverfront Trail makes you go even further out of your way (and up a giant hill) because a fence have been inexplicably built across 1st street (and the sidewalks) in front of the former Sundeckers. 2nd street doesn't event feel like you should be riding on it because of the security booths and extremely hostile speed bumps.

Yeah, the closure of First Street to pedestrians is mind-boggling. Is it not still a public street? Even if it has been privatized, it's still ridiculous that one of the two interior north-south rights of way has been completely closed not just to car traffic but pedestrians too.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025The new and beautiful riverfront bike trail in front of the Arch and Landing is basically useless because the flood gates at Carr street have been closed for like five years, and now the detour to the North Riverfront Trail makes you go even further out of your way (and up a giant hill) because a fence have been inexplicably built across 1st street (and the sidewalks) in front of the former Sundeckers. 2nd street doesn't event feel like you should be riding on it because of the security booths and extremely hostile speed bumps.

Should be an interesting night downtown.
- The Cardinals have a 1980's themed bobblehead giveaway, so that should fill Busch Stadium up a bit more. Might have a decent crowd tonight.
- Chris "Girlfriend Abuser" Brown has an almost sold out show at the Dome. When I was messing around with the Jefferson Arms Marriott AC opening in the app I noticed downtown hotels are sold out or $300-500/night
Yea NASCAR stuff going on across the river this weekend too, all puts lots of demand on the hotels.
I really really hope metro isn't messing around with construction tonight. Trains are also gonna be in high demand and it would be smart for them to not make people wait an extra 20-30 minutes because they've decided to single track through downtown.

Apparently even the greenery that does exist isn't maintained by the city today:

The riverfront street barricades are another example of how lack of enforcement affects us all. I know we are severely down with the numbers of police but there must be something that can be done. I was downtown yesterday and the Jersey barriers by Kiener need to go. Also the area around Schnucks has really gone down hill with all the storefront vacancies and vagrants I am embarrassed for out of town visitors to walk through there.
Because it's an expensive hassle to upkeep. It really needs to be outsourced to a neighborhood association or something.rbb wrote: ↑Sep 06, 2025Apparently even the greenery that does exist isn't maintained by the city today:

Joint Explore/ GSL marketing campaign is coming soon. I’ve seen it. It’s fine but nothing transformative
Downtown doesn't need a marketing plan. The best marketing plan for downtown would be major infrastructure investment and implementation of the Downtown 2020 plan they made a couple years ago.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 06, 2025Joint Explore/ GSL marketing campaign is coming soon. lol. i'm not the one spending all my time on social media trying to spin every. f*cking. thing. she does or says into a controversy. you very clearly have an agenda. it's funny that you think it's not obvious.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 25, 2025You should see a therapist.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Aug 25, 2025holy sh*t DB is OBSESSED. that or somebody's paying him for the social media blitz. nobody spends this much time trying to defame the mayor that beat their friend—starting before she even took office—unless they have an unhealthy vendetta or are getting compensated. i'm curious whether DB's wife's PR firm is involved...
In your logic, and it’s beyond stupid, anyone that didn’t vote for Trump, now cannot criticize him. Again, very good therapist
to a degree? what forum are you reading? i don't think you're fully aware of how much propaganda he's putting out. and his wife runs a PR company that specializes in "designing strategy to shape public dialogue" (from their website), so i don't think it's that far-fetched to wonder whether this is more than just a handful of measured opinions on a niche forum. i'm not the only one who's noticed.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Aug 25, 2025Come on now. Oh boy, now DB is "putting out propaganda".
Should be worth noting that most of what DB does is spread positive news about city development and is one of our strongest city apologists. Inherently this means he is indirectly defending the incumbent administration, no matter who it is. New apartments being built, new businesses opening, and general new development reflects well on Spencer. If DB had a genuine anti-Spencer agenda, he would be posting exclusively negative things about the city and highlighting every little thing that he could twist into being an attack on Spencer, like what was done by many people with Jones.
One thing in particular that he appears to be on Spencer's "side" on is the firing of Neal Richardson and general revamp of SLDC. That was pretty controversial but he has "put out" positive things he has said he's heard from developers about the "new" SLDC.
Urban, your last 6 comments on here have been with regards to DB dating back to mid August. Give it a rest.

That's the issue - the neighborhood associations that currently fund upkeep can't really do it anymore.Auggie wrote: ↑Sep 06, 2025Because it's an expensive hassle to upkeep. Here was some Photoshop fun I had recently in trying to show small or minor adjustments versus large projects. Murals and planters on broadway.

I'd personally just replace it all with natives and try to do some form of pseudo prairie renewal.

What year are you talking?RayfromSTL wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025Yes, The "cruisers" did absolutely ruin it for everyone. The out-of-control drivers of today don't make matters any better. The police have little control over traffic issues, so barricades being placed is the way the city has decided to solve the issue. Folks can argue all they want about why this and why that. Fact of the matter is that many locals and tourists aren't going to be where they aren't welcomed. The city (generally) welcomes lawlessness. It has for years, and it shows. It's really a damn shame. I remember when it was a welcoming, vibrant area, for everyone. Much of the city was.framer wrote: ↑Sep 04, 2025Didn't the cruisers take over Wharf Street several years ago and pretty much ruin it for everyone?
I applaud the efforts to keep it alive, vibrant and beautiful, from everyone on here, behind the scenes, in the neighborhoods, and in the business community.
I would say the city felt more welcoming because people weren't glued to devices telling them every time someone was shot or a car was stolen to drive their entire personalities and perspective on our fine city.

I am a little confused as to what has started….city traffic was doing utility locates today and he told me for concrete sidewalk work but the Tucker project work was awarded to Kozeny Wagner Construction. What could have happened is that city took some of the scope back because it was over budget?
