I don't know where to put this, so move it to a more appropriate thread if it fits better elsewhere.
Might there be hope for 1532 Tower Grove Ave., home of the former Regal Food Market?
In driving past, I've seen some signs that might point toward a potential rehab.
Would love to see continued momentum down this Tower Grove Ave./Vandeventer corridor, and hopefully down Folsom as well.

Yes, this should probably go in the Botanical Heights thread: botanical-heights-mcree-town-infill-and ... -s150.html
There were plans for this to be rehabbed last I was told back in 2020, though some legal proceedings dealing with the prior tenant (and I assume COVID) delayed it some. UIC's moved their HQ next door and owns the building.

Ah, yes, that thread would have made a lot of sense. I'll use it the next time.
Mods, could you move these posts? MOVED
Side note: I'm really hoping for the day in which we can get some small infill projects of the two surface parking lots of Tower Grove Ave. just north of I-44 on the northeast and northwest corners of Lafayette. A few three- or four-story apartment buildings seem like they would work perfectly for the scope and vibe of the area.

Interesting Article, I'd be curious to see as well, what percentage of the suburban development has attracted black homebuyers in McRee town compared to the modern UIC development to the west. I'd be curious to see how it compares to the Gate District which still has a very Black identity.
This was asked a page or so earlier here, but I didn't really see a definitive answer. What's with all the empty lots around the McBride sections of the neighborhood? It's like they just stopped building, especially those empty lots east of Lawrence. The way those 20 houses are crammed into middle of the block makes it look incomplete. It seems there'd more than enough demand in this area to justify some more homes, ideally some mixed use or at least some corner commercial. It'd be great to see those cul-de-sacs removed too.
The Botanical Heights Homeowners Association owns them. Anybody have any insight? Any chance we see some infill in the near future?

Looks like the northeast corner of Vandaventer and I-44/Lafayette sold. Sign says "Exotica Nursery and Gardens, Coming This Fall".

Do we have any additional details on this? Kind of a weird spot for a nursery, right?Auggie wrote: ↑Sep 01, 2025Looks like the northeast corner of Vandaventer and I-44/Lafayette sold. Sign says "Exotica Nursery and Gardens, Coming This Fall".
Zero idea. Looked it up and couldn't find anything. I posted because I noticed the "FOR SALE" sign is gone and replaced with the Exotica sign.Miss Shell wrote: ↑Sep 05, 2025Do we have any additional details on this? I see that Bush construction has finally started work on the expansion of their offices at 1536 Tower Grove Ave. Hopefully this will include the old railway hotel on the corner of Folsom Ave as well.

^That was a hotel? Was there more to it at one time? I really need to look that up. I've put the depots back in in my NIMBY Rails dream. Didn't realize they ever served anything much more than a commuter function, though I suppose I should have guessed, since Delmar did, and Vandeventer probably did at one time as well. (Further back.) Interesting.

I was told it was originally a hotel for the railroad and when they raised the road to go over the tracks they had to raise the building by adding a lower level.
