Possible Early Rendering?

CityScene STL's take

I wonder where the demand is going to come from for this proposal. Obviously I would love to see the East St. Louis riverfront developed. I see boating canals in this rendering. I definitely think it would have to be an either regional or national draw to be successful. Something completely unique to the region. Maybe a possible expansion of the Casino Queen as a casino resort?

^ I'm not sure that's a rendering for what Killeen is proposing. They said theirs was in front of the Arch and their pictures are around the park over there. The rendering seems to show a development north of the Eads and MLK bridges.

This whole thing seems a bit odd to me. Are they creating this competition for architects to submit plans for this area, or did they win a competition to develop this area? The wording seems kind of weird. Either way, hope to see some concepts soon.

1. The rendering seen above (isn't working for me) was a concept from several years ago to my understanding.
2. Killeen Studio's high rise towers are part of a competition for a prize but may not be developed unless a developer wants to buy in.
3. BOLD areas: It's a competition for an award and not an RFP for this area.

I see what they're trying to do, but I feel like they have an uphill battle on getting buy-in. Imagine how difficult it is for a lot of these developers to either get financing that works, and the requirement of real demand, and that's already a challenge for our side of the river. I do think something like a Casino Queen resort thing could be an opportunity. Wish this effort and money would just hop across the river to the Landing or Chouteau's. But interested to see where this goes. Have always wanted to see both sides of our river developed, but of course an cognizant of the flooding, present industrial nature, etc. I'm not sure if I'll see the other side developed like Downtown St. Louis, ever, unfortunately.

And yes, that is an attempt at describing the Millennium project into the skyline. :)

28 acres on East Riverfront under contract. Asking is/as $3.6M. With Route 3 extension under construction soon, hard to imagine what someone is envisioning with this.

Agreed.

Something like American Family Insurance Amphitheater in Milwaukee.

Amphitheater is actually one of the best ideas for this area I think I've ever heard.

Land for parking. Access to Metrolink. Could even have a view of the skyline from the lawn/some seats.

Again: look at Milwaukee.

All of this.  Perfect use of this land and would automatically become and iconic spot for a band to play.

Not to mention if the parking lots are grass it could be a perfect spot for a major music festival to set up

The accessibility is my biggest gripe about Hollywood.  There's no public transit option and you're left sitting in an hour long plus line to get out of there.  Not that there's that many acts they book out there that I'd love to see, but even if so, it's almost a nonstarter.

That would be a brilliant use of the space, and instant potential activation of nearby parcels.  For who knows what, but improves any possibility.

Not to mention they inexplicably started charging an arm and a leg to park there after decades of it being free. Why? Because F U

Good. It costs money to maintain a parking lot and pay parking attendants. No reason the people parking shouldn't be paying that. One of the biggest issues with car culture is the ease of parking and how it is almost always free.

East riverfront (and North Riverfront right behind it) would be perfect for an outdoor concert venue.

There’s something productive that can be done with that land. I am still hopeful there will be an idea and application

Awesome!

"East St. Louis City Manager Robert Betts confirmed Friday that the city has acquired 50 acres of developable riverfront land, including 20 acres that is symmetrically aligned with the Gateway Arch."

Curious where exactly the other 30 acres are?
