These lively pedestrian river bridge combos, Louisville, Nashville, Cincy, Minneapolis etc, all have one thing in common: Density on both sides.

For this idea to be truly successful, the Illinois side NEEDS to build up the East Riverfront. The fastest way to kick start this IMO is the amphitheater. Have it be the centerpiece of a greater development. Perhaps connect it to the casino. Build some bars on front street with decks facing the skyline. Eventually start building out a line of five over ones with amazing balcony views. Aim for 5k residents on the riverfront + attractions and the Eads Bridge linear park will be popping.

In the meantime, the footprint for vehicular traffic could be reduced to one lane in each direction with small shoulders. The new space could be turned into a nice and wide protected multiuse lane which would connect up to three planned Illinois greenways (Metrobikelink, Levee Trail, and Schoolhouse Trail) to STL City. This kind of connectivity could be vital in getting the above mentioned development off the ground.

I’ve got the answer. An Elon Musk Las Vegas Loop tunnel under the river that uses Teslas — like the one at Las Vegas convention center and the one planned for Nashville downtown to the airport there. It could start in the museum area under the Arch.

How big of a net would it take to shoot tourists from a cannon to East side? Going ballistic.

So the Park Service would never allow a Vegas loop.  Next option -- small fleet of waymos allowed to park on wharf street or the cobblestones.  But the most likely is nothing.  You drive yourself there.  Or 2 boats that shuttle pedestrians across the river.

Think big folks! With just a little bit of work you can get to the East side by going up the Missouri leg and then down the Illinois leg:

Look at how beautiful the Eads bridge was during the marathon with all the runners

You can’t convince me activity on the Eads bridge of bikes, people walking and socializing, vendors, performers wouldn’t change the image of our riverfront and city quickly

You know, honestly an autonomous low speed shuttle isn't the worst idea:

When I was in New Zealand water taxis were great. Would be great to see a handful circulating people across the river.

They really went with on of the more uninspired designs in the competition and then subtracted some of the cooler things from it. The judging committee and NPS really let us down - Hopefully the work on the east side can invigorate the vision
