Tornado damages estimate is up to $1.6 billion, bipartisan group of state lawmakers have earmarked $25M in aid.
What kind of funds were provided by local/state/federal governments for Joplin tornado several years ago?
$36M according to this 2013 USA Today article. This was due to unexpectedly high insurance reimbursements and higher than expected federal aid.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... y/2509685/

That's $51M in today's money.

Joplin looks to have received around $300M in total federal aid, which is $427M in today's money.

7500 residential structures destroyed and 150 people dead, thousands injured. So one can kind of predict what FEMA and state money will be based on precedent.

Precedent is that the government has always failed to provide proper aid to affected areas in virtually every natural disaster that has ever happened. You are just trying to defend the state before they have even done anything because you know they are going to fail to provide an adequate amount of aid once again.

If you really want to go off precedent, the governor at the time freed up $150M for aid if it was needed. Kehoe is busy trying to free up $900M in aid for billionaires on Kansas City.

I am concerned about those people who have not had time to put permanent roofs and instead have temporary tarps. It was windy yesterday and I saw lot of tarps came loose and today it rained hard.

Likely zero cause most people don’t take it serious until the storm is literally on top of them

Does anyone know if an HOA association is eligible to apply for tornado relief even though insurance is covering some or most of the repairs? We are worried about insurance premium's spiking in future. Is that a valid concern?

Insurance premiums have been going up a lot every year since I bought my home in 2009.

I heard the sirens as I was leaving the office in Earth City.  I was leaving because I could see it getting dark and out there is where the hail seems to occur.  I got in my car, turned on the news and hightailed it home, beating the rain.  So I DID do something, but not sure getting on the highway was the wisest.  I could see the rain not far behind me.  It assured me to follow the news and know I was heading away from it.

I'll wait for more detail but $100 million is WAY more than I ever expected MO to provide to recovery.
"After hours of negotiations, the new plan will boost the amount of money going to help St. Louis residents pick up after the tornado to $100 million. There also are provisions to help offset insurance and property tax liabilities. "

This is a done deal. The House will pass it on Monday. A lot of funds available for STL tornado relief. So all you partisan hacks can ease your feelings for Kehoe. He’s the one who made this happen. I know him personally and he’s a good man who hails from north STL.

The stadium mechanism also will be available to the Blues and Cardinals in the future.

Lay off Mike!!

You were literally the one so worried that they weren't gonna provide a substantial amount of aid that you were in here manufacturing a defense before any bill was even voted on.

I also don't care who the stadium money is available to, it shouldn't be included at all- end of story. Doing their job doesn't somehow justify giving hundreds of millions in tax money to billionaires.

Dark cloud- yes, because it is seen as a day to celebrate because the state legislature appears to actually be doing the job they're paid to do, and even then they've tacked on a $1.5B tax subsidy for billionaires.

You, on the other hand, would have acted like a $25M aid bill would have been enough because it "follows precedent" of the Joplin aid, like you explained yesterday.

So, one act that should be seen as .. well.. a moral and fiscal obligation for constituents, overrides all of the other nasty sh*t that we already voted for?

I'm sure he's a decent guy.  I've met him.  But he sold out his political and professional brand to MAGA, and unfortunately no going back from that.

Does anyone know what is going on with 5630 Pershing. There is a "do not enter - lead hazard" warning tape around the perimeter. Is that out of abundance of caution?
