I understand the reservations some may have about Donna Baringer, she is certainly on the moderate wing of the Democratic party and I can't say I have always agreed with how she has voted. But I also believe that we can disagree with our neighbors without it meaning that they are bad people. In this particular case I have known Donna throughout her career as a public servant I am confident that she will work tirelessly as Comptroller, certainly more tirelessly than Darlene Green has in recent years. Green really only has her own complacency and arrogance to blame for this loss.

Got to give Cara credit for doing her victory speech completely sloshed.
Yes, it was why I found Jones and her supporters' messaging to be so offensive. That black people should vote for a black mayor because "our community needs to support each other" or "those racist whites in South City are holding me to a higher standard". If you can't understand how Jones, through all four years of her administration, fostered a sense of division in this City, I don't know what to tell you. We'll know for certain when the ward numbers are released but it seems as if Spencer received a higher share of the black vote than any white mayoral candidate has in modern history. Perhaps you should reflect on why that is!Auggie wrote: ↑Apr 08, 2025Something liberals like to say to act like we are "beyond racism" and pretend that lots of people these days don't still factor in race when they vote.

I know about zero about Donna and I grew to like Green over the years, and probably would have voted for Green if I had a vote. But I do like the article KSDK put out is about Donna prioritizing the new airport terminal. So that’s puts her off to a good start with me. We’ll see how it goes from here.Ebsy wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025I understand the reservations some may have about Donna Baringer, she is certainly on the moderate wing of the Democratic party and I can't say I have always agreed with how she has voted. Haircuts, "karen", and whitepeoplebad. Glad the rest of the city (notably much of north city!) moved on from 2020. We'll be up here when the rest of you decide to catch up.
Bridget beat Rick for Clayton mayor. This thread has been embarrassingly low I.Q. back and forth by the usual suspects. Can we please end it now and get back to urbanism discussion?
We just removed the most urbanist mayor this city has ever had in the modern era and elected one who uses the term "boondoggle" to describe MetroLink expansion. Lmao.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025This thread has been embarrassingly low I.Q. back and forth by the usual suspects. Can we please end it now and get back to urbanism discussion?

The reality of it all is that black people voted for Spencer & so did white people. I’m over all this race bating stuff. The simple fact jones disappointed her supporters & worse she failed them. Spencer deservedly won whether she actually gets some things done & pointing the city in a positive direction will be a tough task for her but anything is possible & she seems more determined to do them whether she achieves them will be a challenge.

We just swapped two Mayors that are marginally different from each other at best, on top of the fact that the Mayoral position has a limited impact on a lot of the priorities voters are concerned about.Auggie wrote:We just removed the most urbanist mayor this city has ever had in the modern era and elected one who uses the term "boondoggle" to describe MetroLink expansion. The reality is that 8,000 fewer people voted this year than in 2021. Really is that black people, as normal, overwhelmingly didn't vote.PlatinumBlues wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025The reality of it all is that black people voted for Spencer & so did white people. The city is already pointing up so it shouldn't be hard for Spencer to keep it in that direction.
This thread is explicitly about the mayors race, not urbanism. There is a litany of threads about urbanism here. This is not one of them. Also... expecting politics to be clean is like expecting the United States to become allied with North Korea... politics are sport. Whether that's convenient for you or not. In this country, people are entitled to their takes. When someone enters the public eye... they are fair game for criticism, critique and mockery. If you don't have the stomach for politics, then leave the table.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025This thread has been embarrassingly low I.Q. back and forth by the usual suspects. If you like... I can muster a whole feed of people dunking on Tishaura in just the same manner respectively, to be fair?

Sadly the metro link expansion isn’t going anywhere not with the current state of the country. If we’re close to getting lucky maybe 10 years or so from any dirt moving if at all. Jones did what she couldAuggie wrote:We just removed the most urbanist mayor this city has ever had in the modern era and elected one who uses the term "boondoggle" to describe MetroLink expansion. You’re missing my point entirely. This thread about politics has dominated the entire urbanism forum for the past couple of months, to the forum’s detriment.SRQ2STL wrote:This thread is explicitly about the mayors race, not urbanism. Of course politics isn’t clean. I’m pointing out there are a few people here (supporters of both Jones and Spencer), that have bogged this forum down with low IQ back and forth ad nauseum.
I can almost guarantee that Spencer’s walking/biking/transit mileage is 100x that of Jones.Auggie wrote:We just removed the most urbanist mayor this city has ever had in the modern era and elected one who uses the term "boondoggle" to describe MetroLink expansion. I was in transportation planning in STL in 2017. It was an open secret that TJ shared disdain for cyclists and bike infrastructure. She hired an ex-Trailnet staffer who promptly got her on MetroLink for a photo-op and gave her a list of buzzwords about bike/ped safety.
“But…but all the new bike lanes being built” almost all of them advocated by private/quasi-private or non-profit organizations for years. All would’ve been built under Krewson/Slay/Spencer with a one-time gift from the feds.
On urbanism? Spencer > Jones by 10,000 miles.
My final take in this thread. This is a triumphant culmination of one woman’s 20 year run from private citizen, to community leader, to alder, and now Mayor. No connections other than the ones she made herself along the way. A success story for those who dream of leading. I’m very optimistic for St. Louis, maybe more than I ever have been.
