Great use for that corner though the design is hardly inspired.

Why are my favorite places getting burned out these days? First 21st Street Brewers Bar, then Three Kings Delmar, then Stella Blues, and now here?
Major bummer. Also major bummer for a street that has struggled since COVID but seemed to be turning the corner again.

That’s horrible. They had a beautiful space and really engaging storefront. Any insight on what happened? I hope it can be brought back to life.
I love this building. Hope they got it under control quickly. There’s a couple fire stations very close. Hoping just some small damage.

I'll walk by today and peek my head in and report back. I would think it was pretty bad though considering the front windows are busted out and the cleaners next door also suffered damage

Stella Blues still hasn’t rebuilt. Not sure their progress. Gelateria is one of the last bastions of evening coffee shops post COVID. Would definitely donate to get these neighborhood staples back.

Steve's Hot Dogs is donating half of sales this weekend to Gelateria. That there's a good dude.

^Hey, the fundraiser looks like it's going well. Hopefully they're insured and they can get where they need to be. That's . . . a mess. But maybe they can get it cleaned back up and running. I wish them luck.

It's a fundraiser to pay the staff through the closure which I would take as a good sign that they were well insured and thus have the means to rebuild

I dont know how i feel about these fundraisers yet.... the businesses profits are for the owner but when sh*t hits the fan, the hand goes out.
So I talked to someone connected with the ownership of Stella this weekend. They said it is indeed going to come back. It's just been very delayed...due to the owners father passing.. who was Korean I believe and it involved handling that both stateside and over in Korea. Family stuff is the reason for the long pause.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Mar 07, 2025Stella Blues still hasn’t rebuilt. Not sure their progress. Our small businesses and our parks are carrying most of the weight of the vibrancy of our city, as national retail and our regional corporations have largely abandoned it.
Our commerical corridors are a tremendous strength of StL and outshine many cities for their density of one of a kind small businesses. We have an abundance of them that are untouched by the corporate world, which is rare. Sometimes, it comes across as a weakness that we don’t have name brand stores, but to me, it’s a real strength of our city if we foster and take care of the small businesses that we have so these areas are full of life despite the void of “destination” or “popular” retail.
Places like Gelateria are important to keeping those strengths going. So I donated

I don't care for these fundraiser either but mostly because I don't trust whomever to distribute as promised and the assume gofundme takes a significant cut.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Mar 10, 2025I dont know how i feel about these fundraisers yet.... the businesses profits are for the owner but when sh*t hits the fan, the hand goes out.
I think your other point is inappropriate here. This doesn't seem like something faceless that is owned by a hedge fund. Small business owners have vision and take huge risks that are not shared by the employees. Failure rate in restaurants is huge and leaves lots of people in huge debts. No need to pull out your manifesto here.

That location will be much better for them than Soulard IMO. More central and closer to their actual customers. Easy bus access.
