Agreed. It’s become difficult to find Jones support in places it was pretty reliable 4 years ago.

I've been saying for weeks that the enthusiasm for a second Jones term just wasn't there.

Four years ago a lot of people voted for Jones and Spencer in the first round. I was one of them.

I doubt there will be many who vote for more than one candidate this time.

Maybe some will vote for both of the male also fans to make some sort of misogynist statement but it won't be significant.

What are the downtown drawbacks for Jones? What paybacks? That would probably be enough to finally flip me completely if Spencer is heavier on the importance of downtown and has bold plans but just not sure what the stances are or what would support such claim since there has been way too much focus about the damn snow.

I really don’t see the drawbacks. I mean she seems to prioritize the North Side vs the Central Corridor more so than other candidates, but she’s been pretty supportive of DT in my mind.

If she did come out against it, that's a big reversal from 10 years ago...

I mean no one has given a comprehensive, empirical, reasoned argument in favor of Spencer or as to why Jones doesn't deserve 4 more years.

Still waiting on that. Only asked like half a dozen times.

PostFeb 04, 2025#585

She had a tweet from 2019 suggesting that we should spend money on upgrading current transit instead of building the North South route. Before that it was universally in favor.

I can't find a tweet in favor of it since 2017 though. You'd think she would have said something if she really supported it. But I haven't seen anything where she outright says that she opposes it.

This is also a pretty different Cara Spencer from 10 years ago, or even 4 years ago.

People have given their opinion as to why they are not voting to reelect Jones.

Many of them are former Jones supporters

Your opinion is that they are wrong.

I'd think you'd want to bring these people back around to your side in the next couple of months.

Sounds like you're just annoyed that the facts don't support your position. All I'm asking is for you to rationalize but you can't because your position is irrational.

Same reason Trump won. Like I said, post-fact world.

So now we're at "everyone who doesn't support Tishaura Jones in 2025 is MAGA by default" mode.

I'm happy to be corrected if I missed some news but is the current mayor actually going to go the full length of term and not have a plan in motion for the free Rams money? Happy to be filled in on details if I have missed anything.

I may be mistaken, but I believe nextstl had prepared a candidate questionaire for a past election on issues related to urbanism. Anyway, I'd like to see something like that for this election. Maybe ahead of the General Election.

OK
You said that not me.

What I said is Spencer is benefitting from the same things Trump benefitted from. Things like people falsely thinking crime is up, economy is down, etc. It's literally the same reason the state is trying to take over the PD. Falsely claiming that state control is better than local control. No evidence to back up that claim, yet they're going through with it.

Post-fact world.

Here's the Mayoral Candidate Survey from 2021. I think it all applies to today with the added knowledge as to what they've done on these things the last 4 years.

We know how Jones feels about the NFL settlement.

How does Cara Spencer feel? I imagine she prefers larger investments in smaller, more traditional, economic development drivers. I imagine she’d be a bigger advocate for downtown spending.

It’ll take a unified board to defeat any Mayoral veto, I don’t see that happening. Progressive visions for this money could rely on winning in March/April.
