Hoping WashU can put some resources into getting this intersection, as well as FPP and Big Bend, calmed and safer for pedestrians. Feels like there's always pieces of cars on those corners, and it's only a matter of time before one of their students ends up on the wrong end of a collision.
WUSTL paid for the redo of the FPP and Skinker intersection. It helped, but the bollards weren't really bollards, rather wimpy breakaway posts.

I hope Michael is disposed to narrow and traffic calm Lindell. It has a nice combination of densely populated apartment dwellers and the rich who could see common cause in shrinking it down to size and adding some mid-block crosswalks on those long blocks.

His strongest part of his platform is that of pro-pedestrian experience. I heard from someone at the city that he is working on getting the same treatment that east of Vandy got down to Kingshighway. We will see.

But around Ted Drewes those are "accidents" not terrorism so it doesn't drive the news cycle and *hands up and shrug* nothing we can dochris fuller wrote: ↑Jan 05, 2025Can't say they didn't know about the threat from cars.

Would have been nice to have some trees but somebody mentioned there are visibility issues.quincunx wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025They're finally starting the safety improvements at Ted Drewes

I’m a little surprised Ted Drewe’s isn’t taking the opportunity to create a patio space in at least the smaller lot to the southwest. 2 entrances is too much now and just causes chaos and safety issues within the parking lot. Plus, I always found that for such an iconic place, the experience besides the ice cream is a lackluster because there’s nowhere to sit and enjoy it. They should have a picnic area set up in one of these spaces instead of parking. It would be rather simple. With the current setup, you basically have to get your ice cream and stand in the line area or leave
They need the parking for the suburbanites to park.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025Would have been nice to have some trees but somebody mentioned there are visibility issues.quincunx wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025They're finally starting the safety improvements at Ted Drewes

In all seriousness, having an actual patio area versus even taking 10 spots away is such a good trade off. Gosh Chippewa could be a nice little commercial street but it’s such a car sewer parking lot mess. I love Ted Drewes and the nostalgia and its product but not so much the actual experienceAuggie wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025They need the parking for the suburbanites to park.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025Would have been nice to have some trees but somebody mentioned there are visibility issues.quincunx wrote: ↑Jan 28, 2025They're finally starting the safety improvements at Ted Drewes

I'm 100% serious. They wouldn't dream of removing parking because most of their customer base relies on that parking and would lose their minds if they removed parking.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Jan 29, 2025In all seriousness, having an actual patio area versus even taking 10 spots away is such a good trade off. I count eight at the crosswalk. Two on the north side, four on the island (three are visible and one is probably hidden behind a sign), and two on the south side of the street. The placement on the island doesn't seem . . . optimal, since they seem to be set back from the street on the approach side somewhat. More would probably be better. And maybe they could be beefier. The drawing makes them look smaller than they're likely to be, due to the size of the image. And it's not really a scale drawing anyway, just a conceptual rendering. They're probably not much more than placeholders saying "drop a bollard about here."quincunx wrote: ↑Jan 29, 2025Anyone see bollards in that drawing?
Yeah, I kind of hate going to Ted Drews if I'm totally honest, since it is such a horrible location. The custard is . . . fine? Doesn't seem to be quite what it used to be to me. But the location sucks. I don't think this will really do much to fix that, but it should make it at least a little safer for those crossing Chippewa. Getting rid of the turn lane entirely might help too. More and more I think those bi-directional left turn lanes should be banned and more or less universally replaced with islands or medians.

I grew up in Oakville, and my family frequented Ted Drewes at least once a month. We always parked on a side street because my parents hated how crazy the parking lots were. They could definitely convert at least a portion of their lot into a seating area.
