Clark is still moving toward, should be having a meeting with alder Aldridge and the blues soon, there is some urgency to get something done before the Frozen Fourdelmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Dec 13, 2024Great to see this! Felt like we had been sitting on that one without much news. Municipal Courts Building would be a great entertainment and civic space for multiple uses.
Agree, adding a tower on the backlot would fill in a key spot on Clark. Best transit access in the city right there too. Clark is still very pieced together with the horrible ramps at 10th, lot next to tin roof, the city hall back lot and oh my oh my that horrible horrible ramp at 14th (really needs to be taken down).
Love the DB idea of giving it a facelift as a sports street. I think young people would find the area between Enterprise and Busch as a good place to live with a facelift and filling in the weird gaps with more residential.

Great to see some momentum here! DB, what sort of things could be done in the next 3-4 months? Nice to see some urgency, but seems like a short window of opportunity before the FF.

This would be more expensive but it would be cool to do an STL sports walk of fame along Clark
some new trees would be nice toodbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 13, 2024Mural on the wall by the post office, repave and new lightingEssTeeEll wrote: ↑Dec 13, 2024Great to see some momentum here! I walked it with forestry and we counted 40 spots. It’s going to be $10,000 to get the trees, hire contractor to dig and install. It can be cheaper for smaller less mature trees but I want something bigger so that in 1-2 years it looks like it’s been there for a while. I don’t know if it can get done before FF since there is a specific season for the trees that forestry wants.

Do something that flowers, like cherry blossom, red buds or dogwoods. Will make for great impact in springtime. Great aerials too.

^Not sure red buds or dogwoods would do as well as street trees. They're really understory trees. They want some shade before they're happy. The volunteer redbud between my neighbor and I is happy as a clam with nothing at all. The one I planted in my front yard is a scrawny little thing several years in. Once there are some mature street trees I suspect you could get redbuds and dogwoods under them. More cherry trees might work fine, though. They don't seem to require as much shade.

I would second cherry blossoms. I actually saw St. Louis at the top of a list one time as one of the best places for people to see Cherry Blossoms, and I agree. Forest Park, Botanical Gardens and WashU have great collections. Would love to see more color downtown.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2024^Not sure red buds or dogwoods would do as well as street trees. They're really understory trees. What about magnolias? Same as was recently planted in Forest Park along the walkway between the visitor's center and Pagoda Circle.
-RBBTo identify a replacement tree species, Forest Park Forever’s horticulture team looked for trees that would meet several factors:The magnolias that will be planted are roughly between 5-10 years old, and will measure a little over 10 feet tall when installed.
- Appropriately sized and conducive to the landscape
- Spring flowering to maintain the original design intent of the allée
- A more narrow form, as the allée primarily consists of trees between a sidewalk and a parking lot
- The need to be able to source in bulk — 60 trees of the same species at similar stages of growth

RFP for this is due Jan 8th. Based on tour list we may see one or 2 proposals or none. I don’t know why put this out in late October and didn’t do site visits until a week before thanksgiving. We’ll see what happens, but I would have waited until January to put out the rfp, especially since the Millennium hotel is also due in mid January
^ Yeah, people love working over the holidays. I assume we'll see another round (or 10) of this process.

Due date is today. It would not surprise me if this gets tried again if there isn’t enough response but there are expectation of some

Wish Pulitzer Arts or another Foundation would have taken a look. A new Museum is the right play here on top of the Gatway Mall
Rex Sinqufeld is a huge collector of American Regionalist art. I've always hoped he would establish a museum here to share it with the public.

Chemical, Railway, AT&T, Millenium - apartments, condos, hotel, don’t care. Just get it done
I am worried about taking hard and fast any Municipal Court Building bid. I am pickier about what we see here because I think it needs a civic/public component. Hoping for something exciting!

I agree that it doesn't matter, just get it done. Having said that I'm worried about hotels as we may have too many already. I hope the building could work for apartments.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Jan 09, 2025Chemical, Railway, AT&T, Millenium - apartments, condos, hotel, don’t care. I agree and have written the same!

This for example from October 2024 (occupancy rate has been relatively low) Hyatt Regency St. Louis owner could face 'imminent default' | ksdk.comDebaliviere91 wrote: ↑Jan 09, 2025Do you have any data points indicating we have too many hotels?chris fuller wrote:I'm worried about hotels as we may have too many already

Union Station and Hilton at the ballpark are expecting their best year ever in Downtown in 2025

Hilton should consider investing some of those profits in a good power washing for its facade.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 09, 2025Union Station and Hilton at the ballpark are expecting their best year ever in Downtown in 2025
