For 2024, I did not fair all that well:

NO - Blues Make the Playoffs
NO - Albion breaks ground
YES, STILL NOT REALIZED - The value engineered 7th Street connector sucks and fails to deliver as intended, but is swath of fresh concrete, sapling trees and new paint.
50/50 - Optimist and Engineer Club sites see new proposals
YES, including STL / Imminent domain - Paul McKee gets sued by multitude of northside property neighbors
NO - 2 more student oriented projects are proposed near SLUH
YES - The tower projects at the Armory officially die.
NO - Cardinals trade for Cease
NO - Cardinals win Central
NO - The curse of the Chemical building is lifted, construction begins.

After this brutalization I'll mull my 2025 until the 1st...

^Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

Sports:
Yep - The Cards continue to play like crap.
Nope - The Blues turn it around.
Nope - City StL wins the division again, and goes a bit deeper in the playoffs, but probably still comes up short.
Nope - The Battlebudgies win it all.

Some not sports:
Nope - We land a second TATL, most likely a lower cost carrier.
Nope - The super powered incentive bill passes. (That's kind of a dream, but there's a few little things in it that might grease the way.)
I don't think so - We see an uptick in major music tours, thanks to the new Chesterfield studio. (Should probably figure out how many we had this year to see what an uptick would look like, but . . . I bet we'll have one.)

I'm honestly not 100% on the concert question, but it looks to me like 2024 was a bit of a down year. 2023 was a pretty big concert year at the dome, and maybe also the arena. 2024 looks to have been down quite a bit at both. On the other hand, the production facility on which this whole thing was predicated got delayed.

And there was one last bit thrown in later; that the airport redesign would keep ticking along on schedule. No demo before late 2025. That's come out about fine. It's still a ways to demo, I think, but they do appear to be moving forward adequately. So 2025 . . .

PostDec 25, 2024#4

I'm leaving sports aside as I simply don't care enough.

But here's the not sports.

We see a second TATL, most likely on a lower cost carrier.
The super-powered incentives bill passes. (Still more dream than prediction, but they keep pushing it and sweetening it up little by little.)
The city takes Railway Exchange, and we see some work to secure and stabilize the building, but we don't see a sale or development announcements.
McKee gets run out of the north side on a rail and his assets get liquidated.
TRRA breaks ground on the improvements at Madison.
We finally see lower traffic fatalities inside city limits as road diet programs pick up speed.

Seeing the low cost TATL Airline, I just noticed a newer low cost provider formed from former WOW executives - Play.  Looks like Iceland is again their focus city.  4 US airports right now (BWI, IAD, BOS and SWF (New York Stewart).  Maybe we can lure them back here.

1) it will be proven Trump won in 2020, total election fraud
2) Fauci will stand trial
3) Tishaura will win in an “unexplained” landslide
4) Zero talks/plans about city/county merger.

Otherwise, 2025 will be stupendous !

5 Repaving arterials continues
6 Renderings and design options released for Millenium Hotel redevelopment.
7 Optimist in the CWE progresses.

Start after Raineri finishes 7th street in the spring) Same for TG connector, its been awarded

Trying to keep my predictions to realities this year. I was 13/48 last year!

And those realities sound pretty good to me.

^ you should amend this and say it will be demolished and turned into parking by end of 2025.  That’s the most likely scenario.   LHM bought it last year for something related to land lease of its hotel

I will absolutely lose my mind. There are two 2-block wide, 8 story garages and two block wide 5 story garages immediately nearby.

Spaces like city garden, keiner, brickline greenway will never be bustling if we continue to face them with parking garages.

We show up at the top of lists for amount of downtown land taken by parking. We have so much empty parking space downtown. I have never been to a major city downtown that is easier to park in than StL

I can’t even with this

2025 is going to be a very wierd one. Some predictions...

- Armory re-opens, but the Foundry unexpectedly closes. "How'd that happen?" we all ask as we shake our heads.
- Railway Exchange redevelopment moves forward as the world's largest discotheque.
- Building permit office adopts the slogan "Go Big or Go Home" and only issues high dollar permits. The 10 permits issued for the year exceed $4B, by far the highest value ever.
- St. Louis University pulls off a very successful April Fool's Joke by teasing renderings of an extremely well planned and exciting mixed-use TOD at the "Iron Hill" site.... at the press conference it announces its real plans for a Super-sized, New Gen QT.
- Clydesdales go on strike and miss Opening Day festivities.
- On the field, the Red Birds are 20 games back on June 1 but pull a Blues in-season worst to first and win it all.  Someone we've never even heard of yet pitches the Game 4 shut out and hits the winning home run for the World Series sweep.
- Andy Karandzieff files for the Mayor's race at the last moment; wins election by threatening to close down Crown Candy if he loses.
- St. Louis City establishes itself as a hot re-location market for those fleeing high-priced housing markets; however, the New Madrid  Fault blows a gasket in December and, welp.... that's all folks!

I asked chat GPT to create some predictions, here is what it came up with:

1. Ongoing Renovations at St. Louis Lambert International Airport
  • The airport will continue its modernization efforts, with upgrades to terminals, improved passenger amenities, and an increase in international flights, particularly to Mexico and Canada. These changes will position Lambert as a more competitive regional airport by 2025.
2. Continued Growth of the Cortex Innovation District
  • The Cortex district will see steady expansion, with more office buildings and tech-focused companies, particularly in biotech and agtech. New research labs, office spaces, and satellite offices of out-of-town firms will continue to drive the area's growth, establishing St. Louis as a hub for innovation.
3. Gradual North Riverfront Development
  • The North Riverfront will undergo incremental improvements, with new green spaces, small-scale commercial developments, and parking facilities. While large-scale redevelopment will take longer, expect the area to begin attracting more visitors and businesses, slowly transforming into a more vibrant district.
4. Increased Investment in Affordable Housing
  • St. Louis will see the completion of several affordable housing projects in downtown and surrounding areas, particularly as the city focuses on mixed-use developments. These initiatives will help address the housing affordability issue in the city, though it will be a slow process.
5. MetroLink Expansion and Improved Connectivity
  • There will be some noticeable extensions and improvements to the MetroLink light rail system, particularly in underserved areas like the southern and western suburbs. This will help enhance regional connectivity and provide more public transit options for residents.
6. St. Louis Becomes a Stronger Remote Work Destination
  • As remote work remains a growing trend, St. Louis will become a more attractive destination for remote workers and digital nomads, especially in neighborhoods like the Central West End and downtown. Co-working spaces will increase, and more tech workers will move to the city due to its low cost of living.
7. Continued Growth of the St. Louis Tech & Life Sciences Sectors
  • The tech and life sciences sectors will continue to see incremental growth, with more startups and small companies in health tech, agtech, and software development. Washington University, BJC HealthCare, and other institutions will drive innovation in the region, attracting more talent and investment.
8. South Grand and Delmar Loop as Key Cultural Hubs
  • Neighborhoods like South Grand and the Delmar Loop will continue to attract new businesses, restaurants, and residents. These areas will see a steady increase in foot traffic and business activity, becoming more vibrant cultural hubs in the city.
9. Union Station Modernization and Retail Growth
  • Union Station will continue its transformation into a more dynamic space, with new retail and dining options. While it won’t become a large-scale entertainment complex by 2025, it will offer improved amenities, becoming a more attractive destination for both locals and tourists.
10. Focus on Sustainability and Green Initiatives
  • St. Louis will make noticeable progress in sustainability, with new green building projects, more solar panel installations on public buildings, and increased electric vehicle charging infrastructure. These changes will be part of a longer-term effort to position the city as a more environmentally conscious urban center.

8. Unfortunately, no new construction takes place in downtown neighborhood proper. Several rehabs on Wash Ave, Mansion House and Landing progress though.

9. Downtown sees another year over year increase in restaurants, bars, retail.

10. CWE Albion tower continues to stall.

11. Gravois Park will see record permits and becomes the fastest income-changing neighborhood.
