Let's not forget that Maplewood was used for filming "In The Air". They shot at the Methodist church on Sutton Ave for George Clooney's sister's wedding.

Really wish this had been communicated a bit better. Was a real PITA trying to take a coworker of mine to the hospital the other day.

Yeah, I often wonder how a place like Los Angelis functions with their streets so often being taken over for TV and movie production.

^^Might also be why they have stricter regulations than most places, requiring permits and fees and all that jazz.

Nope.  Its almost solely driven by the incredible scale of the sprawl.  Some of which you could maybe blame on there being in an earthquake hot zone which until the 90s heavily favored 1 story stick frame over high rise.

And until recently, lack of mass transit.  And geography, mountains severely hinder where roads can go, so it funnels traffic into several pinch points, especially heading north.  Though, I think LA is, statistically, more dense than Chicago or NYC (I remember reading that 10+ years ago but I don't remember if it was metro or city only).

Sounds like due to the fire in LA, they will achieve the 15-hour city.

Today is the last day they will be filming "On Fire" here in St. Louis, which is based on the true story of John O'Leary.  My daughter has a small role in the film and I was lucky enough to ride along yesterday for part of what was filmed at Busch Stadium.  The movie should be released in October/November 2024, and was filmed 100% in Missouri.  I believe absent a Jefferson City scene that the rest was all filmed in St. Louis.

I’m happy for Missouri reinstating the tax credits, but I would encourage them to raise the cap, so Missouri remains competitive with other states.

Tubi (free downloadable TV) has a movie listed as from 2024 - Continental Split, which the poster / snapshot is of St. Louis.  I am going to watch this now.

That's over 90 minutes you'll never get back.  Really bad flick

Thankfully I watched it also while I was working, very B movie.  Images of St. Louis and Jeff city during an 8 point something quake.  And they pronounced the New Madrid fault like the city in Spain (which, I get) but I have always hear is locally with the Mad pronounced like "Mad" as in angry (not "Mudrid" like Mud).

Hey, you can watch the trailer and see a building fall in the location of Met Square (doesn't look like Met Square, though) and a few minutes later when the Arch goes down Met Square is there. On the other hand, you get to see a tsunami from a new ocean smashing into the state capitol which is . . . a little cathartic, I guess? The FX at least look sort of localish. Mostly. Good enough, if you want to watch St. Louis get destroyed. (And Jeff City. So there's a little something for everybody.)

I just heard about this 1979 flick filmed entirely in St. Louis. Anyone have the, uh, opportunity to see it?

"An ex-soldier is hired by local right-wingers as a vigilante to clean up criminals and street people. However, he freaks out and starts killing off everybody."

And until I found this I had no idea that classic "In the Health of the Night" was filmed in and around Sparta, Illinois

If you know of any others that include MO/IL filming locations feel free to share them here.
Sparta was used for most of it, but they didn’t stick to just Sparta. They also filmed closer to the city, in Belleville. Great movie, btw. If no one here has seen it, this isn’t just a classic, it’s an award winner. This movie was Best Picture in 1968 - a year many consider to be one of the most turbulent in US history.

FYI, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this, but my favorite part of the tax incentive is the expanded incentive if the film includes iconic Missouri locations (like the Gateway Arch). This is where Georgia dropped the ball. If you see a movie filmed in Georgia, you’re not going to know it was Georgia, unless you recognize the humidity. The city often appears generic. You get the same with movies filmed in Canada, when they’re not pretending their cities are somewhere in the US.

You show the arch, you advertise it. So, besides the jobs, the in-state expenditures, and the use of vendors, you can also bring in tourists. This is bigger and better advertising than a tourism commercial (although those are great too).

Will it be shot in St. Louis? Seeing as we have the film tax credit back?

Dunno. Saw it on Reddit, and nobody there seems to know either.

‘Concrete Jungle Gym’ traces life of Bob Cassilly, from City Museum to Cementland

The documentary "Concrete Jungle Gym" chronicles the brilliant and complicated life of Bob Cassilly, the creator of City Museum. Premiering at the St. Louis International Film Festival this weekend, the film draws on decades of footage to create an intimate portrait of an artist driven to create something bold — and big — from the demolished pieces of the city around him.

FYI, they have pushed the release date for "On Fire" to Fall 2025.  As I understand this movie will be released in Theatres and will have A LOT of St. Louis ties and features so should be a good one!
