there were 19,000 total crimes through may, lets say it took SLMPD officers 30 min on average at scene of each one (idk this seems fair?)  thats 9,500 hours at crime scenses taking down reports out of X available hours in those 5 months, so how many is that?

lets say 200 officers on any given shift X 40 hours a week X 20 weeks= 160,000 hours x 3 8 hour shifts= 480,000 hours.....that should probably be divided by 2 since theyre 2 per car, so 240,000 hours and 9,500 is spent at crime senses.....or 4%
This feels like stat bombing with no discernible point. If your suggestions is that they only spend 4% of their time at crime scenes so we are actually over staffed then I want to know why the other 96% isn’t overtly for active crime prevention. What are they doing?

Beyond the fragmented metro, a big issue with STLPD staffing is that -- from what I've been told by actual STLPD retirees very much in the know -- the STLPD has a disproportionately high number of desk jockey administrator cops.  Dudes just sitting at HQ pushing paper. So, we need fewer cops on Facebook and more cops on beats.
Agree, this is what I was alluding to a couple posts ago.

Where do we get 200 per shift? The department has what 875 current members. Roughly 100 are out on sick leave. Another 200 are assigned to traffic, swat, investigative units or are in command. Another 50 are desk officers, clerks, aides, that kind of thing. The average district only has 10 officers and maybe 2 supervisors per shift, that's if they're lucky. On the weekends, some districts are lucky to have 5 officers working.

Wayback Machine only has June 17 2023 but we are at about the same # of homicides in 2024. We also haven’t had one for about 8 days now

Keep an eye on the news this weekend. There will be break-ins and much damage for city business owners specifically in South City to deal with.

I have pretty good idea who the three people (kids really) and that have done at least some of these useless, damaging, and costly break-ins. I know where they are targeting next. I warned the appropriate people. I don't KNOW them as in names so I can't really do much about it.

That leads me to an interesting topic: windows. Windows are nice. Downtowns with large street level windows are nice. Of course, you can't have them here for the most part. A shame really.

No idea what was in the water on a Sunday night…not like today is a holiday. Partying in the street leading to a multiple person shooting at 2 am on a Monday. Burglaries in Dogtown, Grove, Midtown. Couple more shootings in county and south city. The thing that disappoints me is we just can’t afford the bad publicity and it stinks that people treat local businesses and the downtown like that.

I’m not a big cop arrest and lock people up guy but in favor of present and apparent public safety. How do we allow teenagers to hang out in the middle of downtown obviously causing issues at 2 am? This one is on our police department.

Regardless, of all that, the media needs to be responsible in its reporting. They can report on the facts but we shouldn’t have headlines like this one from Fox to scare people from coming downtown (it cannot afford it anymore!). Downtown has actually been pretty safe statistically the last couple years yet the reputation got worse, and it began to be a cyclical issue where less people go, more of the bad actions can take place. And by the way, all the as of now reported people involved in this shooting last night were from county and St. Charles county, showing that this should all be a regional effort. The whole region is struggling from the reputation and it’s not just the city’s fault.

Just a frustrating weekend all around.

Ah well, maybe explains the partying more then but we can’t afford the news stations moving out to Maryland Heights and pandering to downtown being uninhabitable and unvisitable and we can’t afford preventable shootings like the one Sunday morning downtown.

Should we put turnstiles on the highway exits in the city to keep criminals from using the state's crime delivery system to come into the city?

No I enjoy too much the Tokyo Drift entertainment on Washington Ave and Tucker Blvd. We should add interstate exits and widen the streets more!

I say tear up the pavement downtown and unleash the cobblestone streets and streetcar tracks. No more 3 am Fast 2 Furious

Tishaura’s response called out the biggest opportunity to making downtown and our region safer, which is state action on gun control.

Of course, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. I don’t know how else to get that narrative across and make a change.

This hits home, the man who was shot here was marrying a coworker. Our office learned about this today and everyone is shocked and angered that life is so meaningless to many. There's a Go Fund Me page that has been started, please consider helping.

What a weird sequence of events. The whole situation actually.

Go into a backyard of a house. Demand money but instead shoot someone and leave without taking anything.

Not the first time. Much of this is racially motivated but nobody wants to talk about it.

It’s not illegal, it’s just very stupid. And you have to be incredibly stupid to think this case had anything to do with race. A part of bunch of people and 2 gun man end up just shooting one specific person and leaving. That’s a beef.

I'm not surprised that people are speculating about what happened but to suggest this was racially motivated is just dumb, as was mentioned.

The family says one person had a gun pointed at the groom the entire time while the 2nd was frisking people for wallets. There were several partiers who came outside when they heard the commotion and the gunman panicked.
