Id guess felony includes a gun in the act....with that said, SLMPD arrests for illegal guns has skyrocketed.....so more guns off the street and criminals are resorting to petty theft without a guns?
Ill have the full June and YTD hopefully later today...
Kansas City has these problems and their PD is run by the state.
So tired of expecting local politicians to overcome massive forces are at work at higher levels.
Tishaura, re violence, just said, “we’ve done all we can do, our hands are tied by the state.”
So why don’t other cities in the state have these problems? Hmmm
So tired of politicians blaming others and not taking responsibility.
Violent crime in KC, raw total and pop adjusted is worse then here and Springfield MO had a 3 year streak of setting records for homicides after the state kept loosing gun laws.

Theres so many forces at play - national policy, state policy, class and racial discrimination, education. It’s baffling that people will yell “Keep voting a Democrat for mayor and city will be a sh*thole”, while ignoring the state legislature. Local has some play but can’t do everything.
And the refusal of so many people within our region to go downtown because of “crime” doesn’t help the crime. Nor is it accurate that crime has skyrocketed.
The race numbers are a bit staggering here. Idk what a short term answer is to that. Lot of work to do in equity in the city and the country.
Cheers to @dbInSouthCity for all the hard sheetwork he does putting all that data together! Credit's very much due...
And it really is amazing how much crime has dropped off since the early 1990s. Crime's still around, no doubt, but just lookit all that. Now to find out exactly why the crime is down and how to further replicate those processes.
Removing lead from gasoline helped a lot. Removing more of it from children's environments should get more resources, great ROI, if you can think past the next quarter, FY, election cycle.
This is very heartening data! Crime rates on a per capita basis are now the lowest they've been since before 1985, and the drop in crime since COVID has been counter to the national trend in a number of cities.
I'm genuinely curious what the people who are upset with the current city government object to. I definitely agree that crime should be lower, but it seems like the trend line is strongly in the correct direction and has reached a generational nadir since the election of Tishaura Jones, the consolidation of the BoA, and the removal of many of the criminally corrupt politicians in city government.
My question is this: If you don't already think that the current government is doing a good job on crime, what would the data have to show in order for you to change your mind?
Does the rapid decrease in city population last 40 years have anything to do with it?
Did you miss the per capita part? and also its kind of irrelevant, day time City pop is still about the same as 1990s, 600-800K and with our very small land size (5 times small than KC) the day time pop here doubles and triples at times whereas in KC only goes up 10-20% since basically everything inside of 270 in KC is KC city limit
Hotbed cities like Charlotte are seeing the opposite of what we are seeing here in terms of violent crime. I get flack from some east coast relatives on STL occasionally, but the google machine helps me brake check them rather quickly. (They are suburbanites)

Nope! It is per capita.
I know you've historically expressed a lot of concerns about crime and the current city government - I'm also definitely concerned about crime, but I'm very optimistic given these stats. What sort of data would make you feel similarly optimistic?
^ I am happy that crime is coming down but why isn't anyone focused on bringing employees back to office, 3 days a week? Are those days gone? There is no vibrancy during non-game days.
